I have always wondered why Betta tanks/bowls need to be changed more frequently than other fish (typical week ...week and a half..some lonnger).

Betta fish seem to need cleaning every few days. Are they known for secreting some sort of liquid that clouds the water? I have always been curious about this.

My female and male betta spawned yesterday.. at 4:30ish. but ive seen pictures online of the eggs being inside the bubbles and mine aren't. the male cleans them and spits them back out and does everything he should be doing but the eggs are not inside the bubbles.. is this normal..?

They are brand new, and I am using a big pump. I have tried switching the pieces around, but it doesn't make much difference, any suggestions?

I just purchased a Siamese Fighting Betta Saturday past. I have made certain to keep him isolated in a nice sized bowl away from extremes (heat, cold, noise).

I also purchased Betta-Min food.

I have sprinkled food into the bowl and he doesn't seem eager to eat. I will walk away and come back and he still hasn't eaten. I normally have to clean the food particles out of the bowl after a few hours. I am not sure if he is just eating what he wants and leaving the rest. It's been like this since Saturday.

Is it possible that the Betta is going through some sort of depression after being taken from the Pet Shop? I know that they are typically animals that are content with solitude...but I think this one is lonely.

and ever since ive gotten a bloodfin, it seemed to chase/follow it around alot.
so if my barb IS pregnant..
what do i do????
how can i prevent the eggs being eaten and any other harm??

HI i have two fish two male so i seperate them with a pitch black glass. One each side of the tank with a pitch black piece of glass in between.

Now this is what i dont understand, they cannot see threw there, not even a shadow goes threw.

Yet somehow, they know the other one is there. And want to fight. How is it possible.

Thank you very much

My kids have tried to grow these things on a number of occasions. They hatch, grow a little then die. Does anyone have any tips on keeping and growing these things? I have just bought the little sachet kits and the plastic home they come with. I follow all the instructions that come with them. What am I doing wrong? What a stoopid question this is!

I have a young freshwater stingray. In his tank I have his aquatic heater in a glass vase. The breeder we bought him from warned us about that he could eaisly burn himself if the heater is not covered, so we covered it. But, he managed to knock it over and burnt one of his eyes. The eye I think partially came off or something. It was there just burnt, and then it turned redish and is gone. The eye at leat and the socket is open. Where it was burnt around the eye it looks swollen and what appers to be puss or some kind of infection. His other eye looks swollen and he won't eat. He is breathing a bit heavyer too I think. What do I do? The breeder said that you can't use normal fish medications on freshwater stingrays or salts. What else? Will he fight the infection? Thanks. I may put up a picture if I can.

I hadnt seen him in a couple of days, so lifted up his house where he lives in my tank and was pink and well dead and stank to high heaven, What happened to him, I put about 3 alge wafers in every night, but I have a medium sized pleco in there too , makes me think that pleco was pinching all the grub?? Colin the cray fish is really a blue lobster, well thats what they call it! Do you think he was starved to death, my water levels are perfect and cannot think of anythink else. He was also in a tank of 10 other malawi cichlids!! Why did colin dye??

Just changed water in my tank of tropical fish, when I put in the bag of refrigerated bloodworm I noticed that I had 3 medium sized (but sore) scratches or cuts on the hand I used to put in the bloodworm. No fish bite in my tank but I'm freaked out now! (using the bloodworm for albino frogs) Please please help.xx

Ok so the moving days fast approaching heres the plan thus far taking into account all the suggestions:
Gonna pack the fish seperately in bags with 1 gallon of water (min) and 1 gal of air (min). Then theyll all be backed into coolers or styrofoam containers. Then we drive 16 hours set up tank float and cut em loose(heard from a fish store that when the air hits the ammonia some kind of reaction takes place that will kill them during the drip cycle). Oh yeah were gonna ziplock the rest of there water and double bag it so we have all the water we can tow with us (75 gallons... hope no one wants the ziplock bags from walmart were buying em :)). Now a point not covered. The canister filter can carry its own stuff BUT what about my biowheels? How do i keep those things alive without assigning someone er condeming someone to shaking it for 12-16 hours? Your input is very welcome. Also where can i get some O2 without a perscription?
