I have my 3-4 in. pleco with my baby guppies in a 10 gallon tank--is the pleco going to be alright to stay in the tank with the baby guppies or will he kill them?

He is usually very active and swims around his 5 gallon tank (which is filtered and heated apropriately), however when I got home, he was lying on the bottom with his fins quite clamped. Also, his eyes are both a little cloudy. He still eats like total pig but only comes up to get food or air. I put 'Aqua Safety' in this morning (10ml for 5gal.) it should regulate all the pH and stuff but i haven't got a test kit handy and probably won't get one for a while... please help!
PS i also have a small catfish who is in the tank and he seems 100% o.k. (they are not aggressive towards each other)

I have a banded cat shark that will not eat. He is about a year old and for the passed two months has wanted to eat, but cannot swallow due to a sore throat. Pet specialists told me to add iodine to the water and that worked for about 2 weeks but stopped. He ate fine ever since birth. I feed him shrimp squid and clams, etc and I think he may have a goiter, sometimes he manages to swallow a piece but hes getting very skinny, can anyone relate or help me out? I clean my tanks well and he shares the 150 gallon with an eel so they both have plenty of space.

I had posted a question about my red-cap oranda and someone thinks that it has dropsy. Well... I try to change its water one or twice everyday, keep the water temperature higher than usual, and put salt in with it. I have been doing that for 3 days now. Recently, its scales protrude less, it does not look as bloated as before, and it hang out on the surface less then before, but it is still not eating. Is my goldfish getting better? Are there any hope that it will get well soon? Are there anything else I can do to help my goldfish?

How do you reduce copper in an aquarium. Also, are there testing kits for it? I haven't found any.

i have a 55gal tank with a 55gal filter (the one that hangs on the sides) going on 24/7. in the tank i have 12 small-mid goldfish. do i need an air pump?

but if i dont put in an air pump does my water become dirty or anything bad?
(i dont want the air pump because when the bubble pops on the surface its splashes water on the roof of fishtank and the water left there makes algae.)

My Beloved Male Betta named "Bambi" because he has spots like a dalmation, seems to have pale vertical stripes on his body. When I first seen them I thought he was very sick and I was going to loose him. It would break my heart if I did, but I know fish don't live very long lives. Could someone PLEASE tell what caused the vertical stripes or where I can find information about it? THANKS SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

I have 2 dragon gobies, along with silver dollars, in a 55 gallon tank. My dragon gobies are constantly rolling around with each other. Are they fighting or mating? I heard they are not aggressive fish and do not fight among each other.

Any info on these fish would be appreciated! Thank you!

How does deep-fried betta fish taste?

Perhaps breeders should start selling a few hundred for a tasty meal.

And don't give me any BS about animal cruelty because I'm sure that you eat cows/chicken/pigs which are killed feeling extreme pain. I'm vegeterian - although I do eat fish.

Bettas are a fish - meaning they are below the food chain. And they have scales and fins - meaning they are a clean fish that would probably make a good sandwich.

i just bought a ghost knife fish yesterday and i bought couple of black worms to feed it.

my question is do i feed them at night only?

how often do i have to feed it, once, twice?

it keeps hiding a a lot i know they are nocturnal creatures but i saw some at the store all moving and active in the light...is this due to swiching to new tank?

how do i feed black worms so it doesnt go into my gravel and just eventually die there? for now i cut up a water bottle and make it into a little tray and put black worms on it ... will it eat off that??

sorry if my questions are just all over the place

i have two female guppies and one male, i was worried at first that they would be reproducing too frequently and i wouldn't be able to keep a good watch on them.....but i have had one for over 6 months, and her belly gets swollen and i transfer her to a breeder and weeks later still nothing. now the same problem is occuring with the other female. i am weary about leaving them in the breeder for more than 2 weeks at a time because i know it stresses them. i even found a large vase and put rocks from the tank in the bottom, and left one female there for almost a month and still nothing. the man at the pet store said they guppies aren't prone to eating their own fry. what should i do?

I have 28 gallon tank with 3 catfish, 3 zebra danio, 3 mickey platies and 1 large creme colored snail. I bought two dwarf puffers from Petsmart b/c they were in the freshwater section.

But after having them home for nearly three weeks and doing some online research on Freshwater Forum, I read that you are supposed to keep Dwarf Puffers isolated from catfish and platies b/c they are very territorial and are actually brackish water (translation: salt water ?) fish.

So I am in need of some clarification. Should I move the 2 dwarf puffers to my previous 10 gallon tank and put sand in the bottom and and 1 tablespoon of salt w/some plant coverage?

Or will they be fine with the community of fish I already have? I know they are territorial and like a sandbed beneath them b/c they can cut themselves on the edges of gravel (Freshwater Forum post indicated this). But no one at Petsmart told me any of this?

So now I am concerned. They are so cute and seem to get along fine. Help!

We had two fish for a while, and one just passed away last week. Ever since she died, the other fish seems sad. All he does is sit inside a little truck we have in there, occasionally coming out for food or to swim around a bit. He looks physically healthy but seems so sad! Is it possible that he's depressed? I heard somewhere that fish only have a memory span of 3 seconds, and if so, then how would he even know that the other fish died? Anyways.. if he is depressed, how can we fix it? Should we get one or two new baby fish to keep him company? Should I give him a Paxil?

It's been a week since the fish was on its side.. First, it was upside down at the bottom of the tank. Still moving but looks like it lost it's balance..
Then 5 days later when I came home from flight, the fish is now floating on top of the tank on its side. The fin was above the water, and the joint looked swollen and red. And part of it's body was above the water and looked bloated and reddish (only the part above the water).
It's agonising to looked at the fish. I cant help crying..
But I cant do anything. And my dad seems to not want it anymore. But isnt doing anything about it.
Sobz..
What can I do..

Lately my siamese fighting fish has been lying down at bottom of the bowl and only comes up for a feed. He seems lazy and lifeless. Can anyone tell my why and how I can improve his condition? I change his water frequently (adding conditioner) perhaps is it the temp of the water? It is beginning to get quite cold....
