My Beloved Male Betta named "Bambi" because he has spots like a dalmation, seems to have pale vertical stripes on his body. When I first seen them I thought he was very sick and I was going to loose him. It would break my heart if I did, but I know fish don't live very long lives. Could someone PLEASE tell what caused the vertical stripes or where I can find information about it? THANKS SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

The vertical stripes on my male Betta have disappeared, a few minutes after I sent my question. I have 4 Betta books that I have read, but couldn't find an answer. I will reread the books again.THANK YOU!!!!

Sometimes I have noticed that some get stripes when they are stressed or scared. Did you recently do a water change? Add new fish? I wouldn't worry if he isn't showing any signs of illness.

my sister had a betta that lasted 6 years. the vertical stripes are a sign that he is mature enough to mate and has taken a liking to you. you could try to breed him, go to your local library and check out some books on Betta's and breeding and see if you are up to the task and responsibility.

Many bettas develop stripes on them as they age, it's not uncommon at all and not a sign of disease. Personally, as long as the water conditions are ok, I wouldn't worry about it at all.
