I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 cherry barbs, 2 bronze corydoras and 1 male betta. Every time I feed my fish, my betta eats all the food. He even eats the pellets I give my catfish. When my other fish approches the food I give them, the male betta will just chase them away, I want healthy fish, Do you have any idea on what I could do so all of them eat equal amounts of food?

The water was starting to get cloudy, so I did a 50% water change, but it's still around the same level of cloudiness (I use instant tapwater conditioner). Any suggestions as to why this happened? How can I fix it? How can I avoid this in the future?

I've had my fish for about 7 months. He's been a healthy fish up until two days ago, when I found him floating at the top of his bowl. At first he was floating upright, he would still swim, and seemed really lethargic, but he has gotten worse. He's floating on his side at the top of water, and he looks like he might be having trouble breathing. I don't see any kind of fungus on him, I don't keep him with other fish so he has not been injured. I've looked up illnesses for betta's but nothhing really matches his sypmtoms. I really love my fish and I don't want to see him die. Please help.

The size ranges from sand grain size to very tiny pebble. Say pin head to small nail head size. Bigger than a salt grain, coarse sand size about. They don't cover the bottom, there are maybe 20 or so in there at any given time. They are heavy, the syphon won't pull them out very well. I have only glass and hard black river rock with a mostly bare bottomed tank, that's why they are so noticable. Fish pick them up and spit them back out, so they aren't edible.

I always wondered that. Alligators' sex are determined by the temperature that their eggs are kept at, and I was wondering the same for guppies. Even then, are guppies born or are their eggs laid then they hatch? I wouldn't know for guppies because for other fish it's eggs, and then people say guppies are born. I dont know. I breed the guppies I have and all the babies I have had born turned out male, so i had to keep on getting females, when they die, from the pet store.

Ok...my uncle has a tank of fish (55 gallons) He recently bought a Pacu because he is going to give the goldfish to a friend who has a pond...I used to have goldfish in ponds and they thrived!! They were great. So anyway, my very docile fish Daltry is getting eaten alive. When I kept him and my other goldfish, Doyle, together Doyle would try to bite his tail off. Now in the big tank the Pacu is trying to bite his whole tail off. So I removed the fish but he almost died becasue he was laying on his side not moving. So I had to put him back in the 55 gal tank. Ive read online that Pacus aren't aggressive unless provoked. There is also a rather large oscar who only bothers the small fish and my goldfish is rather big. Anyone know why this is happening?

Hello, I've had my aquarium for some time now and I want to change the gravel as it is starting to go a little manky. Could someone clarify for me if I should use a lighter or darker gravel to bring out the best colours out of my fish?

Many Thanks

My hubby had this fish donated to his classroom by one of his students, and so it has been living in a 55 gallon during the majority of the school year. He had to tear the tank down since the school year ended, and did not want to mess with the fish as his school is 30 minutes away. I'm not maxed out on my 56 gallon, but I suspect that it would attempt to eat my corys if given half a chance. It is full grown at about 5 inches. Currently I have it in a 10 gallon that I intended for using with my corys, and unfortunately do not have another working aquarium to place it in. My other big tank cracked several years ago when I moved, darn it. It has a few guppies and a small crayfish that he couldn't give away in with it. Should I leave it, or can I get away with it in the bigger tank where I think it would be more comfy? I've got gouramies and several tetras in the 56 gallon, along with 6 corys.

The remaining one seems to be missing its mate and I have heard it may die of loneliness.I have noticed also that it lets my 2 parrot fish bully it,something which would never have happened when its mate was around..it is still feeding well but hides in the plants a lot.

If I put an upside down co2 "container" of some sort in my tank, can I simply blow some bubbles into the water under the container, so the container holds my co2 and it eventually disperses into the water? Is that possible? Or should I go with the yeast method of diy co2 injection?
I want to help my plants out, I don't want to poison my fish, and I don't want the pH to drop badly because I don't have much of a buffer, I don't think.
I have four small-medium sized plants and four small fish (3 glowlights, 1black neon) in my ten gallon, and my tank is pretty new. It's 10 days old, approximately, and the ammonia and nitrites are still at 0.
Is it safe and effective to just blow co2 NOT into the water, but into an upside down container that will dissolve the stuff into the water?

Thank you :)

I just added a new tiger oscar cichlid to my 55gal aquarium. The aquarium is new, but I have tested the ph (7.8 right now and I understand that cichlids like high ph levels), nitrate and ammonia are perfect at 0 and the water temperature is 77-78 which is fine. When I setup the water, I used the water conditioner and put in the stress coat when I added the fish. The fish were floating in their bags for about 20 minutes in the water before I let them free.
One of my cichlids is almost laying on its side in the corner. The other 2 are hiding which is normal but are still fluttering their fins and look fine. So, what could be the problem with my black one? I cant figure out where the problem is.
