The remaining one seems to be missing its mate and I have heard it may die of loneliness.I have noticed also that it lets my 2 parrot fish bully it,something which would never have happened when its mate was around..it is still feeding well but hides in the plants a lot.

an Oscar are natural companions and if they were a male and a female it is like a human they usually have one companion and no others therefore if the other one dies then it will feel lonely for a while, but if will eventually get over the death of the other one.
you can try and get another one to help adjust but you must make sure you get one the same size of the other, if you tel me what town or city you live in then i might be able to find you another large Oscar in the area you live within.

He should come around before long. He's not actually missing the other fish, just reacting to the change in his environment. He will eventually stop allowing the parrots to bully him and at least acheive a stable truce.

wow talk about weird, i would isolate the lonely Oscar for a few days, then i would put it back together. As long as you keep feeding you Oscar, and its healthy, i doubt it will dies, so just give it a day or 2, and then put all the fish together.

Hard to say with oscars. If you get a replacement it will probably attack it.
