If you want something to look at go with 5 males.
Female guppies are very plain and often have very little coloring.
Not to gross you out or anything, but if you do get males and females and you keep them all in the same tank and don't seperate the ones that are pregnant, you more then likely won't have an increase in population as the adults will see the babies as food.
The other option is if you want males and females you can just sell the extra's as feeder guppies to small turtle owners. or just give them to the local pet store.

8 is adequate, yet i do no longer propose it. it truly isn't any longer truly person-friendly so which you would be able to maintain the toddlers alive the two. I even have in straight forward terms ever bought 3 guppies yet now I even have 100s. I actually have a 10 gallon tank set up that in the time of straight forward terms homes crimson cherry shrimp appropriate now. If i desire to have extra guppies I take a pregnant lady out of the tank(yet on no account whilst they are close to to giving start, that would desire to reason her to have start appropriate away and that they may be stillborn) and positioned her in the 10g. sometimes they do no longer consume any of the toddlers and sometime they consume some, it only relies upon on the fish. yet DON"T DO IT, YOU DON"T HAVE sufficient room.

Get the males. Can't guarantee the females aren't already pregnant. Plus, they can continue to have fry with no male in the tank for up to about 6 months....

Males are the best way to go and females are usually already pregnant or are going to be pregnant because they have mated with a female already.

Why would you want females? They have no color. Plus you run the risk of buying an already pregnant female.

Get all males, they are the prettier sex :-) and I dont think they will fight eachother too much considering there arent any females around.
