Q : Have you ever had your pleco fish jump out of the tank and survive ?
How many times and how long was it out of the tank ?

Silly wabbits he has jumped out when he lived in a bowl or a low level indoor pond he no longer does any more,...but has lived over nite, and I think because there was not enuff oxyegen so he would rush to the suface and get air, somtime jumping out the tank
he would be very dehydrated using the water sored in his body I think iwas just seeing if anyone had any similar experiences

Happens all the time. They can live out of water for a very long time, they have a labrynth organ in their head that allows them to consume atmospheric air somewhat in addition to the oxygen they receive from their gills.

I have one that is 18" and one that is 8". The only way they would jump out of the tank is if you don't have a cover on in and they go up too fast for their gulp of air and overshoot the top. Keep a screened cover at least over the tank and you won't have any problems.

Not a pleco, but i did have a Golden Chinese Algae Eater fly out of the tank while I was cleaning it. He landed behind the tank, perched precariously on the edge of the stand, his tail hanging ober (thank goodness he didn't hit the floor). It was one time, for less than 5 minutes. That was months ago, and he's still alive and swimmin!

Generally this happens when a fish is uncomfortable in his enviourment howelse would he be able to escape. Last time this happened to me was when a thermostat failed, it was lucky as its in a cupboard and i dont usually check on it the pleco trying to escape had me looking for a problem luckily

No, this usually does not happen and could because there is something wrong with the water. If not then that is really stange.

to much water in tank will cause fish to jump out.
