Ok...my uncle has a tank of fish (55 gallons) He recently bought a Pacu because he is going to give the goldfish to a friend who has a pond...I used to have goldfish in ponds and they thrived!! They were great. So anyway, my very docile fish Daltry is getting eaten alive. When I kept him and my other goldfish, Doyle, together Doyle would try to bite his tail off. Now in the big tank the Pacu is trying to bite his whole tail off. So I removed the fish but he almost died becasue he was laying on his side not moving. So I had to put him back in the 55 gal tank. Ive read online that Pacus aren't aggressive unless provoked. There is also a rather large oscar who only bothers the small fish and my goldfish is rather big. Anyone know why this is happening?

The Pacu is smaller than the Goldfish, if he gets too big for the tank my uncle will find a new home for him.

It could be that your goldfish is getting old, or is ill fish will pick on any fish that doesnt defend itself by either turning on the aggressor or swimming away, which is why the pacu is having a go aswell. It could be its docility is the problem, but it sounds as if its not going to survive in that tank.
the Pacu will probably be in that tank less than a year then those things can exceed 3ft, not really a fish for the home aquarium unless you have the odd 15/20ft spare space. For those that will say it will grow to the size of the tank, Pacu come from a river so the glands to control growth is not well developed.

The pacu won't be smaller than the goldfish for long. Then the goldfish is lunch. Pacu's are agressive and it already seems like he's attempting to make a meal of the goldfish. Why would you mix these two anyway. One pacu is all that tank is going to hold, they get as big as a large dinner plate and are known to break tanks that size. Goldfish should never be housed with any other fish other than goldfish. Those fish are no way compatable. Big mistake, I guess you know that already.

Just like with most any fish typically labeled non aggressive, you can get hostile pacu. It sounds like that's what you are facing here and there really isn't anything to do about it except separate the hostile fish from the target and hope the pacu doesn't just select a new target.

No, but I would suggest you buy a pregnancy cage for your goldfish. A pregnacy cage hangs in the side of the tank (on the inside of it) and seperates from the rest of the tank. If you feel your fish can't get along this would be good for your fish.
