A piece of ladies hose is about the best bet. Sponges and other materials will clog often and slow water flow through the filter.

I have found cutting a slit in a filter sponge and putting that over the intake tube works well. While it will still collect debris, it does not quickly clog up like what happens if you put a scrap of nylon or similar items over the intake tube.

You can try going to the art store like Hobby Lobby and get some wire mesh, or some window screen from the Lowe's and cover up the opening. I have never had that happen to me but these seem like feasible ideas to try.

New stockings/pantyhose. Never been worn or washed. ;)

Works like a charm. Good luck!

Hello...problem with that is any filter or screen you use will plug up often, so you can use them, but they have to be cleaned often !! Take Care :)
