I have kept Africans (Malawi, mostly) for over 2 years now, and I'm wanting a change. I love the cichlids, but just kinda want to keep other species. Any sugdgestions? I have no trouble with the maintenence or upkeep, and I'd prefer to stay freshwater.
Oscar(s)? S. American Cichlids? Boring Community fish?

Is it ok to put amphibians of any kind in a koi pond? Will the amphibians transmit disease, or will the koi eat the frogs? Just curious as to whether or not to put some in. Oh, and there's no threat from racoons (I have a high frequency sound generator).

So this morning i went to look at my fish and he was sucked into the filter. I tought he was dead so i unplugged it and he swam away from it. His color is much more pale and he just sat there, but sometimes he swims around for a few seconds. His cheek on his left side popped. is he going to live? does he need to rest and then hell be fine? or what? its been 8 hours since he got out from the filter and his color improved a little but he still is just sitting there

I've tried twice to get a male Danio, but they ended up being females. Is getting an older fish the only way to be sure? It's hard to find older Danios. I have 3 females (Zebra, Leopard long-fin and Gold) now which are puffy with eggs. Do you know how many eggs a female can have?

My tank is 33 gallons, and the parameters are all where they should be, I don't have the exact numbers, but they are all in the "normal" range.
The aquarium walls are covered in algae. The water is not green though. I don't know how to get rid of it. I have tried one of those magnet scrapers, but it doesn't work, and I tried one of those sponge on a stick things, but that didn't work. I bought a pleco, but he's just a little guy (1 inch), and he hasn't been eating off the glass. He sticks to the ornaments in the tank, and eats flakes off the bottom at feeding time.
What else can I do WITHOUT using chemicals? Any suggestions?

Where I live the tapwater has waaay too many phosphates and whenever I replace water there's an algae bloom and the water turns green. My mom suggested using distilled water and I told her it wasn't safe because it has no nutrients and so she then suggested non-distilled spring water.

Is it safe to use?

At chain craft store Michaels & JoAnne, they have an item called "Recycled Fish Net" which is basically what it says... used once to catch fish at sea & now they cut it into a 4 foot x 4 foot net stored in a bag.

I think it would be cool to build some sort of moss wall that included this stuff in its construction.

It doesn't say if the rope is made of cotton / hemp / some other organic material that can decay. There's no information about what its been made out of or treated with.

I also am wondering if the dosage is correct, on the package it says "Instructions: Use 1 teaspoon (5mL) for 4 gallons of water. Treats water for 1 month. Treat replacement water with CoperSafe."

I have a 10 gal tank with only a pleco and a Harliquin Rasboera in it and the pleco is infected BADLY and it has only gotten worse sence I added the CoperSafe about 2 days ago.

Also I had other fish die recentlly due to an amonia spike (which I am treating as well with Biozyme and Zeolite crystals)

I have a small fish tank and is using a hang filter. It comes with a catridge which contains carbon inside. I am now considering adding ceramic balls into my filer so bacteria can cultivate. However, whenever i add the ceramic balls into the my filter, water seems to overflow. Can I just leave the ceramic balls in the fish tank instead of in the filter. Will the bacteria be able to cultivate there ? I have current stack those ceramic balls on my sand inside my fish tank. Need advice .. Thanks !!
