What I found, The lateral line system

All fish have a lateral line system that is made up of receptors that enable fish to “feel” water movements. The receptors – called neuromasts – respond to the relative motion between the fish and water surrounding it. In most fish, the lateral line system has two types of receptors: canal neuromasts and superficial neuromasts.

The most famous fish with with no visible lateral line pores is the herring. The deep-sea fish Cataetyx memorabilis loses it's lateral line as it moves into adulthood.
