Just working on swallowing it. Be really sure that all of the hull is off the pea when you feed them. Even a small piece could give him trouble. He should work it out in no time.

He'll be fine, I'm sure. Sometimes it takes fish awhile to get it all down. I upgraded my Jack Dempsey cichlid to mini-pellets from baby-sized ones, and the first few I thought he was choking because he kept bobbing and he seemed to be trying to chew it forever. Eventually he got it down, but for a bit I was worried. Of course, now he jumps out of the water and eats 4 at a time or so.

He should swallow it, so long as you took off the hull of the pea. My first betta died and it was the saddest day! Make sure you use bottled water for the tank (just get a gallon from Walmart or wherever), and make sure you only feed him once or twice a day--he should only be getting 2 pellets a day. I asked at several pet stores and I went to a fish-specific store and they told me that in the wild, bettas are used to only eating every few days in the wild. So, if you feed it every day, only feed it a few pellets. My fish Stanley has been living for about a year now and he only gets 2 pellets every day at night and I clean his tank every other week--make sure to save half of his water and put it back in the tank with him and with the new water. He needs some of the bacteria from the old water to get him acclimated to the new water. If you change all of his water, it'll be a huge shock for him. Good luck!

How long has he been doing this?
If it doesn't last too long, then he's just swallowing it. I had a betta that could swallow a piece of meat as big as his head, so I don't think it should be too worrying.
I do hope you cooked that pea.

chewing/swallowing. Next time, just give him smaller pieces. And they don't need peas too often. But they are good for constipation. ( you will know if they need one because their bellies get really big)
And good pick on your betta, they are awesome! Definitely my favorite fish.

Did you peel the skin off the pea? If you didn't, the skin might be stuck in his mouth... He can't choke because they breathe from their gills... lol ... He will probably spit it out or swallow it after awhile.
