Is this somewhat normal behavior for these types of fish?? They are different types of swardtails, and the female bites at the male one all the time...he even tries to hide from her... Could this be because she was the only swardtail in the tank for too long and he is new?? Or is this somewhat common behavior??

I had 4 in a 125 gallon and 3 of them were picking on the smallest one. He had chunks bitten out of him and his fins were all tore off so I moved him into his own 55 gallon tank all alone. Now he seems very sad. He lays on the bottom and only gets excited when its time to eat. He can see the other oscars from his tank. Is this normal? Whats going on? I feel sorry for the poor fella!

I found some datnoids at a pet shop and they were on sale so I was thinking about getting one. First of all is this even a good deal? There are 2 of them for sale. One has perfect coloration and is 2". One is 3" but it's coloration is all messed up (the stripes are faded and the body has different shades of green). they were originally $25 and are on sale for $20. Is this a good price? If it is a good deal, which of the 2 datnoids should I get? A few more things. What kind of conditions fo these fish need? Are they brackish? Hardness, ph? Ive seen people keep them with africans so I was thinking of putting them with some of mine. Its not that full. It only has 4 peacocks. One is 4", 2 are 3", and the last is 2 1/2". The ph is usually 8.1 to 7.8. The hardness is usually moderate. Its 55 gallons.

I have a 30 gallon tank and am fighting a losing battle against low PH levels. I was trying to adjust it in with Ph UP and balancers, but it seems to not have the effect that I need, as it continually drops until I treat it again. The low ph level has had a very negative effect on my ability to grow plants for my aquarium.

I have no other problems with my tank, other than an algae bloom that I defeated successfully about 2 months ago. I do regular 20 to 25% water changes about every 10 days to 2 weeks and change the filter (I use Ammo Carb, so Ammonia isn't an issue) as soon as I notice that the water flow begins to taper off.

I have 4 Neons, 11 Tetras(Various breeds), 1 Emerald Cory and a Betta. I know that it's a little crowded and hope that it's not an issue if I keep the tank well-maintained.

Hope that this is enough information and look forward to your answers.

We take great care of our tank, check water often and clean it regulary...The fish are doing well and happy, and the tank is a beautiful clear. It use to get a little green, and hard to get off. We had to scrap it to get it off. NOW both side walls are greening up, it look like carpeted walls. What can we put in there to stop the green from coming. Is there something else we need to do to prevent this? We use an algae eater also. Whenever we do our water changes we add just what the bottle says. Is THIS algae? Please help!!!!! We do love our tank and the fish in it. Thank you for any advice on this matter.

Any info on a tetra called Hamphead?

Its not in the official list of 163 tetra species. They have one at my LFS... 3 inches, $12. Very aggressive & very fast.

It doesn't really look like a tetra to me. It has a long body kinda half way between a mnuba rock fish & a tetra. It has fins on the top & bottom that run the entire length of its body that extend beyond its tail, kinda like a krib.

It was white, with a black spot & a pink spot. It has a small mouth.

It kept trying to run into the glass of its tank to attack a tank of adult platies next door.

I'm fascinated with this fish & would love to build a tank around it.

My local store are chinese guys, who get a lot of oddball stuff from singapore and malaysia. They have tons of flowerhorns in their store.

8 week old tank, cycled with good chemistry. 2 angels, 4 lampeyes, 4 tetras, pleco, bumblebee goby, dwarf puffer. Amazon sword, hornwort, grass, bogwood. Feeding TETPRO crisps, bloodworms. I'm getting 10 rummynose tetras to replace the others this week but I need to make sure I don't have a problem first. Lack of oxygen? I don't have an aerator or oxygenator.

I've been looking for info on keeping fish that are found in East Tx and about as far as I have gotten is how to catch them lol...

I would appreciate any input on things like tank sizes, temperatures, foods, PH and whether or not they should be kept in schools for fish like minnows, perch, grass carp, or sand bass.... I have a feeling the last two I won't have the space for, but any input on those as well would be appreciated. Links are great too! Thanks!

I've had my pleco for about 4 years now and i'm worried that he may become too big for my tank. Is it possible that he may become to big to live in my tank? If yes, when will i know when he is at this stage?
Also, my local pet shop said that if i could catch him, they would buy him from me. The problem is that he is far to quick for me to catch. What can i do?

Alright so I bought a sick beta today, intentionally.Yes I know, how stupid of me but I felt horrible for him,all they did was keep him in a plastic bag with less than even ONE inch of water. Not to mention it was horribly dirty so.Anywho.He seems to have his gills extremly swollen (which I'm assuming is from the dirty water),and he seems to have trouble getting air,and hes pretty much as well..starving.He seems to swim on his side every now and then, then straighten back up.I put half of E.M. Tablet and two drops of this beta stuff that just helps him adjust to the water.Anyone have any sugguestions as to what it is,and how I can save this lil guy or at least let me know if theres anything else I can do for him.Lol i'm desperate sorta.

I have a 6 gallon Marineland Eclipse Aquarium with a few female Bettas in it. They get along great, but i am thinking about adding another fish in there. I know Bettas breath air from the surface, so oxygen in the water doesn't matter to them, but if i get another type, will i need aeration? I heard that the bio-wheel added oxygen without the need of anything else, but i'm not sure. Anyone know?
