I have a 6 gallon Marineland Eclipse Aquarium with a few female Bettas in it. They get along great, but i am thinking about adding another fish in there. I know Bettas breath air from the surface, so oxygen in the water doesn't matter to them, but if i get another type, will i need aeration? I heard that the bio-wheel added oxygen without the need of anything else, but i'm not sure. Anyone know?

The biowheel itself doesn't add oxygen, it provides a surface on which bacteria can grow to remove ammonia and nitrites from the water.

As long as you have the filter turned on so that water is flowing over the biowheel, the movement of the water is increasing the oxygen in your tank.

If you are going to add more fish to a 6 gallon, you will definitely want to add aeration. With a 6 gallon tank, if you already have 3 female bettas (guessing here :-P ) you really dont want to add more than 1 or 2 SMALL fish... and in this case, nothing that the betta females will beat on. while they aren't AS aggressiive as the males... I have seen them be quite nasty. but if you are going to add fish, you will definitely need aeration. Also, bettas usually tolerate pretty low water temperatures compared to tropical fish, who will need their water to be about 78 degrees.. so make sure you stock appropriately so as not to overheat your betta. good luck

A few female bettas is about all a 6 gallon tank can handle. Don't overstock it.

Yes, the filter in your tank will add all the oxygen you need.
