I'm coming to America this year for a school trip and was curious as to whether or not i could buy lots of fish tank decorations etc in walmart as it would make my tank unique?
is there a wide variety etcc?

Yes you can buy aqua decor from walmart not the best seletion on fish stuff but you can. I dont recomend buying fish from walmart though because Its just about imposible to find staff for asistance. But sounds like that wont be a problem for you. HAPPY WALMART SHOPING!

There's not a lot of variety, but what you'll find will depend on the store. If you're visiting different areas, you might stop at more than one. You can look at their website right before you come and see what items they're carrying to help you decide what you might want to get: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=227591&fromPageCatId=202074&catNavId=202074 - not all stores may have every item, so as I said, you may want to shop around if there's a specific item you want.
You're right about unique as well - many of the items they carry are exclusive to their store, so if you don't have WalMart where you live, it would be decorations no one else would have. You may also want to look for Petco, PetSmart, Petland, Pet Supplies Plus, and private stores in the area you visit - each one may have some unique items.

My Wal-Marts have a small selection.
My PetSmart has the best. PetSupermarket second. Private pet stores third and way more expensive (and unfortunately dirty/dusty as well) ... unless you are lucky and actually have a great store nearby. My local stores have sick, dyed, tattooed fish, dirty tanks, and are all about profit margin. So supporting the independant isn't always the best choice, as the person above tried to make it sound. There are the best if you have one with a honest and loving owner.
PetSupermarket for me personally has the cleanest stuff, but this of course will vary from area to area, I don't have a PetCo.
I would suggest shopping around and browsing well, you can find great deals if you take your time.

Most of the Walmarts have quit carrying fish and pets. They have very few fish tank decorations or supplies to choose from. Try visting www.topdoggpetmart.com. Click on fish. They have resin ornaments, ceramic ornaments, rock, wood...actually a better selection than Petsmart it seems. There are some unique ones if you search.

I have a 29 gallon tank and i brought it at walmart along with Most of my fish, some of my frogs and my snails. My decorations are from walmart. and they look just fine. in my tank and there are not hurting my tank. It all depends on what and how much you want to spend. I have also see reasonable prices decorations.at pet shops also.

Yes they sell fish tank decorations, though not a very large selection. You should try individual fish shops or Petsmart and Petco.

You can, but you'll find America also has all sorts of nice independent fish shops that sell more unique and higher quality items that might cost more but are worth every penny, and the chances are better that they weren't made by slaves in china either.

do not go to wal-mart for fish supplies. At least go to pets mart or even better your local fish store.
