We have to do this project for class and we want to get this canal in better shape. We are planning to add flowers and tadpoles. I know this guy who has these unkown tadpoles in his poll. Thousands. Can I remove them and add them to a local canal without harming them?

Yes you can.
You will need the following things, 1 small pail, a food safe plastic bag, a small fishnet and water conditioner. Put the plastic bag in the pool and fill it about 1/3 of the way full of water. Place the water and plastic bag in the small pail. Add the water conditioner to the water in the plastic bag. Being netting the tadpoles from the pool. Tie the plastic bag close. make sure you have about 2/3 air in the bag. Take the tadpoles to their new home. Float the bag on the water for about 15 minutes. Open the bag and add a small amount of water from their new home to the bag. Float the bag again for about 15 minutes. Repeat adding water and floating 2 more times. Then release them into there new home.

The question of "Is it possible?", yes it is, as everyone else has said. The question of "Is it legal?", no, it isn't. You cant move or capture any wild flora or fauna without a licence, or introduce any captive flora or fauna into the wild. But, I am sure no one will mind some school kids moving some tadpoles into a canal!

simple water tests can help asess the situation. for $10 or less at a pet store you can buy multitest strips and just play the color matching game. the water has to be similar for them to survive.

going back to the place where you are renovating for daily feedings wouldn't be a bad idea for a month or so just in case the spot doens't have enough nutrients or food stuffs to support them.

good luck and good job.

Only if you introduce yourself first. Young tadpoles are taught to never go with strangers.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea becuase the chemical in the pool will eventually kill them.

If it's the same kind of water. Fresh to fresh and such then they should be fine.
