➔ Fish
It is a small guppy that he got from his teacher last year. It lives in a 10 gallon tank with fish that petco said was ok to put in with him. He isn't showing any symptoms except he's laying at the bottom of the tank.., and then swims for a second and goes back down.

possibly, but we aren't mind readers, what's wrong with the fish? please provide us with this information first:
1. what kind of fish is it?
2. what are the tank mates?
3. what size is the tank?
4. does it have any symptoms? (white speckles, bloating, pine cone scales, ect...)
5. how long have you have the fish and tank?
*edit*
:( sorry he died. I suggest a fish funeral (I bury mine, but toilets work too), it always helped me deal with the loss of a fish (or any pet) and still does.

Little guppies are fun fish, they do best in groups of 1 male and 2-3 females. However they do tend to have alot of babies.
Sorry that the lil guy died, he was prolly lonely.

I don't know maybe say to your son that the fish is going somewhere and that the fish won't come back until supper or something and go somewhere and get another fish that looks like it and then return home give your son the other fish and he won't know the difference.

So sorry the poor fish died. Did anyone think to consult a vet?
It's hard to know the ages of fish when you get them. And do give your son time to grieve; it's a normal process.

Need lots more info before we can help. Type of fish , size of tank, other fish in the tank and what it's doing that tells you it's sick are good starters.
EDIT: Sorry you lost the fish, hug your son for me, my kids hate losing fish too.

I've heard that cooked peas in one day should give the fish the nutrients it needs to live in an emergancy.

Is it iche? White spots on its fins? If so there is a cure. You may want to change its water. Clean out the filter. But make sure the water is not straight from the city water system. The chemicals are way too harsh.

look for dieses symtoms like white spots(fungus) open sores, ragged fins and red gills(bacterial infection) worm like things on fish, fish looks like it was dipped in gold sprinkles or lotion(parasite) these are symtoms that most fish meds will treat good luck but if he dosen't pull trough buy afish that looks like him and replace.

I've heard that placing a small amout of cooked peas in the bowl might help. I recommend you look that one up on the web first, though!
