I was wondering about how to cycle a 10 gallon tank. I'm not totally clueless, I know the water has to be tested for Ammonia, ph, hardness, alkalinity, nitrate, and nitrate levels I want my fish at, only introduce a few, like 3 fish of a hardy species after at least two weeks of running the tank, wait awhile, then slowly add more until you reach maximum capacity, 1'' per gallon of full grown size. I just don't remember how long, in days, do I wait to purchase fish, test water, and add more fish? Also, what are some good starter plants for this tank that are easy to care for? I want to have a beautiful tank, so what would be good fish to put with plants. I was thinking female bettas and some cories or dwarf gouramis or paradise fish. Thanks in Advance.

i have a black female molly. on april 4, she had 5 babies, so i'm guessing she was pregnant when i bought her because i'd only had her for 2 weeks. i read that mollies can give birth once every month for up to 5 months after their eggs are fertilized. should i plan on her having more babies soon? and should i put her in my breeding net a few days before she would be due? would she eat the babies? are the babies safer just hiding in the plants until i catch them and put them in the net nursery? (that is what i did last time because i didnt know she was pregnant) i want to free the babies from the nursery because they are almost one month old, but i'm afraid my chinese algae eater might eat them. i'm getting rid of the algae eater soon because he is a bully to my other fish. will they be okay for a few days though?

any answers or additional information would be great!

i have a GH of about 120. i have an oscar, parrot fish, silver dollar and a catfish (not sure what kind) in my tank that seem to do ok. i was going to devide 1foot of my 4 foot tank and put some neon tetras and guppys in there to brighten things up but i think the gh is to high so how could i lower this. also do you think it would be ok to devide and add other fish and how many should i add. i was gonna give my SD to a friend so this would also make more room for other fish. thanx for taking time to read and answer :)

Hello. My husband and I and our two sons received some tadpoles from a friend. This person was not feeding them and kept them in a coffee can. There are 2 and they are large. (back legs starting only) I bought large 29 gallon tank, secure lid, round and not sharp fish rocks, a few fake plants, dechlorination drops for the water and fish food to feed them. Can you tell me how else I could make their little lives better? What else do they need or could benefit them? I am a big believer in leaving wild animals alone, but since they are already captured and not in very good shape, I will not just release them in a stream to die. Please let me know. Please no answers about frying them, toilets, etc. Thanks for your time.

few days ago noticed the beginings of fin rot, dosed with sera baktopur (not proper doseage gave 22 drops when should have been 68) left for one day and dosed again with proper amounts as per directions, symptoms seem to be getting a bit worse but not serious, could this just be due to improper dosage first time? slight whitening patches and slight fraying. any suggestions or advice?

Now, my mollie fish has been with me for a couple months and recently contracted some sort of fungus that's taking over her head, it looks like a giant batch of scar tissue, but its not-- it began spreading to my other mollies (and frogs and such) in my 55 G tank and i took her out into a smaller tank, treated both tanks and while my big tank is "cured" she is still sick and not responding to treatment. I took her to petsmart and Jack's aquarium and i just dont know what to do anymore. I tried the expensive treatment, the natural treatment, the generic treatment... help!

So, how do you mercy kill a fish? im not flushing her down the toiler while she's alive.

I have 3 goldfish that I brought in to an aquarium last fall. They are in a 6 gallon aquarium with a filter but no heater. I want to take them back outside soon to their original home in a shallow pond, about 10-15 gallons unfiltered. If I put them in a bag, would they be able to adjust to the temperature if the night temps are in the 50's? Any suggestions?
