Quite a bit - gouramis, loaches, danios, smaller barbs (cherry), larger livebearers, peaceful cichlids (kribensis, orange chromide), silver dollars, African butterfly fish, some of the rainbowfish

You have many choices from this point. Like the previous person said, you can get angel fish but as they grow, they become aggressive as they're cichlids and that's just what cichlids do. You can keep them as juveniles but they should be removed at first signs of aggression. You can also try dwarf cichlids. They are very beautiful and aren't aggressive and stay at a manageable size. Dwarf gourami's are another choice. They come in a variety of colors and stay small as well and have an interesting personality. My personal favorite of the gourami's is the paradise gourami. Here, take a look: http://www.bangkokaquarium.com/Gourami.asp The paradise gourami is under the name of paradise fish. You'll also see some other beautiful species. You can also keep live bearers. A perfect addition to your tank would be fancy guppies. They are small, colorful, and peaceful. A word of advice, if you do decide to get the guppies, make sure you don't get any fin nippers.

angelfish are to be added with caution. when the grow up they may harass the tetras, especially when spawning, if you purchase a pair. From experience, not all Gouramies are compatible with smaller fish, ones such as the Pearl Gourami, Dwarf Gourami and Honey Gourami are good. stay away from Bettas, as they may attack tetras in sort of a dive-bombing motion. Plecos are good tank mates,as are Discus. Khulii loaches also will do fine and platties can also be added with caution, it all depends on the temperament of fish.most fish sold as general community fish will be compatible with the tetras. Another fish i would recommend is the Danio. Feeder goldfish, although cheap and small, will bully smaller fish, such as tetras when they grow up. If you decide to go for cheap fish go with feeder guppies, provided that you buy a few of different gender, because they will occupy themselves with each other and not bother your other fish.
good luck in your fish keeping

try angelfish , they are huge ! they loog great too , perfect for a 55g+
also , feeder goldfish , they are cheep and they grow big , if you buy even aggressive fish like red belly paccu's young , they will adapt and they wont become violent.best tip , dont listen to what the pet store ppl have to say because they will tell you to get like 50 tanks for all kinds of fishes.just remember to buy any fish young and they will adapt.usually with large goldfish , they become what the other fish coppy.remember , feeder goldies and angels .
