I have a 6 inch long adult Calico Fantail fish. He's about two years old. He just got this 'thing' on his sides....it looks red and has like a white film on top, and a small white clump at the base of his tale. I know it's not 'ick' cause there are no white spots on him. What could it be? Is it just cause he's getting old? How long does this breed live and can I treat him?

No change in his 'character', I mean he's still happy and swimming around. Any info would help. Thank you.

We're thinking of starting a great fishtank for our home, and I'm trying to create something beautiful, yet clean. How many things like, coral, anenomes, fish, and tank maintainers should I have? I think we're going to go with a thirty to fifty gallon tank. Thank you.

We decided to try our hands at a pond environment in a troughlike tank. It holds 300 gallons but we only fill it up to the 150 gallons. In it we have plants on block stones which are above the water. In it are bamboo, elephant ears and asparagus fern. In one of the pots we have water irises and another water plant submerged in the water within a pot.

We have alot of AB and have lost 2 of our 7 fish. One fish looked like something ate it's anal fin and the other looked like the algae started growing on it's scales. II don't even know if the others are alive because I can't see them. Except for "Grandpa". He's still kicking.

Any advise?

In have breed many Guppies before but I have a strain that I have never seen any where before. They have yellow / orange tail with black spots and the body has tiger striping with a little bit of a blue hue when under the aquarium light. I was wondering if it a new line or the is already a line like it? Where can I find more info and pictures on the different types of guppies? If it is a new line of Guppies where to I get them certified.

im setting up a 29 gallon small african cichlid tank with only 5 or 6 of the cichlids that get from 4-6 inches long. im going to put in lots of big rocks to decorate.
the tank had ick before thanks to walmart fish, which im not buying any more.
should i replace all the gravel, or should i rinse it with hot tappwater? to get rid of the ick? and hot tapp water the filter and other plants and heater?

im completely redoing the tank and moving it to another room in myhouse

how do i properly cycle it?

should i addone or two cichlids after a few days of it being set up and add like one per week until i have the number needed?
or is it more complex than that?

thanks

Two weeks ago I had a snail out break in my tank. I asked on here and many of you were kind enough to give advice. I tried the lettuce leaf and picking them out one by one, but It was getting worse. So I bought two yoyo loaches to help. The larger of the two took a dislike to my betta and had to be removed but he had split one of my battas fins. I hopre good water and time would help heal it but three days ago, cotton wool fungus started to grow on the nipped fin. I treated it straight away. But the next day he was liveless and seemed to of lost the use of the rear fins. wouldn't eat. I knew he had to get to the surfice to breath so I kept coaxing him up but he sank and eventually dround today. I'm so upset! I adore him. He was my first betta. I only had him two months. What did I do wrong and how do I stop it happening again? The tank is 5+ gall, heated, filtered, no sharp edges. 50% water change every week. Good food. I'm really gutted. How do I stop this happening again?

My poor goldfish can't seem to get to the bottom of his tank. Whenever he swims down he can only make it halfway before he floats right back to top. I mean he acts as if he is balloon being forced underwater, and he comes back to the surface so quickly that half of his body is forced out of the water every time.
The only explanation I have is that he does like to blow bubbles on the surface and make them pop in effort to get my attention everytime I walk by. Maybe he swallowed a bubble??

I called the store where I got it a couple of weeks ago and he said if it's not on the bottom of the tank, it's probably pregnant. It's just hovering (as always) about 3 inches deep and it didn't eat any bloodworms when I fed them a few minutes ago. Is it sick or pregnant. It's the only one I've got so it had to be knocked up when I got it if that's the case. Help save my fish! If it helps, I did a 20% water change last night. All other fish happy & healthy.

i have this fantail fish at home and its about 8 years old but she's still very active. i also have four koi fish and two pond fish and they seem to be okay with one another. but just a little while ago, the koi fishes had tasted some of blood from a scape one of them had and now they're going after the fantail to eat her. they have already eaten most of her fins and now she can barely move to the top of the tank. Is she going to survive?
