I called the store where I got it a couple of weeks ago and he said if it's not on the bottom of the tank, it's probably pregnant. It's just hovering (as always) about 3 inches deep and it didn't eat any bloodworms when I fed them a few minutes ago. Is it sick or pregnant. It's the only one I've got so it had to be knocked up when I got it if that's the case. Help save my fish! If it helps, I did a 20% water change last night. All other fish happy & healthy.

I just noticed the bloating today but the fish is huge now and the scales aren't sticking out like in dropsy

It's not pregnant, that's for sure. It may however be full of eggs, but if this happened fairly suddenly, I seriously doubt that is the problem. The fact that it is not eating isn't a good sign either. A female full of eggs would still eat. It may be constipated, in which case with it not eating it should recver in a day or two. However, I would still consider the most likely answer is an internal bacterial infection. From the sounds of it, you should expect to see scales standing out fairly soon if left untreated.

If that were my fish, I would move it to a treatment tank and treat with Furanace. If you can't move it, treat the entire tank. If Furance isn't available Tetracycline or Maracyn 2 are other choices for treatment, but generally less effective than Furanace.

Concur with magicman, probable internal bacteria. I like furance, but I like to add uniodised salt to the treatment tank for bloating as well. Add 5 teaspoons of salt per gallon of water, this helps to draw the fluids out by osmotic imbalance and that amount of salt, while it seems like a lot, really is not that much. Be sure to use UN-iodised salt (meaning salt without iodine, iodine in salt will kill the fish). Use Kosher salt or aquarium salt; never use regular table salt because it usually contains iodine.

if it is hovering in the middle of the tank if is most likely pregnant because if it near death it would be near the top of the tank and on it sides (look like about to roll over).ur fish is pregnant don't be sad it willl be fine :)
