I treated the water with medication from the fish store. I thought the fish was pregnant, but it never laid any eggs. So I got concerned & talked to the guy at the fish store about it & we decided that it must be sick. Now I'm sick with worry about the fish! Basically, what I would like to know is, how fast the medicine will work. The poor fish looks like it swallowed a golf ball. How many days do you think it will take the fish to return to normal size, or how many days it wil take to at least go down a little in size. The fish still eats & doesn't seem to be in any pain but I feel terrible about it. I was convinced it was pregnant. I've never seen anything like this in my life & I've had fish for 40 years. I don't know why it happened either. I have an excellent filter system & regularly change the water, etc. What causes it? It's a big tank & it has 5 other goldfish in it & they all show no signs of it. Is it common? Thanks for your help. I WILL pick a best answer.

My sister had 3 goldfish and 1 of them kept floating at the top on its side it would occassionaly swim to the bottom of the tank for food but really struggled doing this, someone said it had a bloat problem but........ my sis moved house and we got the fish we gave them fresh water etc and the fish hasn't done it since...
Any ideas why it would correct itself like that?

I just got a new Koi fish and i would like to put him in a tank with some other fish, but i dont know what other kinds of fish he will get a long with. They will be in a 10 gallon and i would like to get 2 or 3 more. I have heard that the coating on a koi fish will kill other typical fish. Is this true? Also has anyone had a fish with a brokin jaw?

Its ph is a little above 7.0, and the temp is around 74F. It is a tropical freshwater.

I've really pondered on Zebra Danios for a awhile, but what is everybodies opinion (that are easy to take care of). Plz not a goldfish. I've heard cherry barbs, dwarf gouramis, corys, killifish, cloud minnows, platies are easy to care for, but would they be okay with my 8 serape?

I really know it's a stupid question. I know some of the tetras (neons and such) grow to a small size. Also I've heard that the tank size alters the fishes growth, so can some 3" inchers grow to only a small size? I think that's not entirely right for a fishkeeper to do that.

I just started treating my newest betta for Velvet about 4 days ago. His breathing is better and his pectoral fins are starting to open again. Problem is he still doesn't seem to be eating and the rest of his fins are still really stiff and clamped. Anyone have any experience with treating this disease?

I recently got 3 little goldfish for my brother and today I noticed that one of them is staying/floating in the center of the tank in a vertical position, his/her head is facing the bottom of the tank. It stays like that for a while and then it swims all around the tank. Its fins are moving and it is still breathing, but is it about to die? Thanks in advance...
