might be on my heater as well. What could it be?

It is often refered to as creep. It is a salt (for salt water aquariums) or calcium build up. It is not harmful for the fish, but many deam it unsightly. Remove it if it bothers you.

Yep, just calcium build up. It's harmless to the fish, but keep it cleaned off of your heater and be sure to keep your tank topped up well or it can cause etching in the glass.

May be a calcium build up from the water.

its normal, alot of tanks get it, the only thing to do is wipe it off daily

it is definitely calcium buildup it is completely normal.
