Just throwing this out there as a poll. I had a fresh water aquarium once. Fish sat there ate sat there ate... wasnt enough to hold my attention. My salt water though the fish fight me for the food had a grouper chase some food out of the tank as well as the actual personalities each fish has. Why waste money on fresh water? So in my supreme opinion fresh waters not worth it.

I picked up a middle aged Calico Walking Catfish this weekend. He's a freaking awesome hyperactive monster.

I got him acclimated after a day or so... 80 degrees was way too hot for him... 75 seems much more his style.

Anyways... I let him out of his acclimating cage & he's doing battle with the adult convict cichlids in the tank. I plan on moving them out to a new tank I'm cycling right now, but I'm just curious how they would fare in a prolonged fight? They are antagonistic to each other.... He'll go steal some babies & run away. They'll sneak up behind him when he lays down to rest / sulk & nip his abdomen.

It doesn't look like the convicts are strong enough to do any damage to him (since he's like 5x their size), and he's too slow to catch them when he goes after them most of the time. I know they say convicts can take down oscars several times their size... howabout this meanie?

I have 3 marble mollies and 3 balloon mollies - I bought the balloon mollies only yesterday, and have today noticed that one of the marble mollies is constantly 'chasing' the balloon mollies.. kinda pushes them along, and is around the side/underbelly of the balloon mollies... what's the marble molly doing?

I used to have a heater in my Aquarium but I took it out cause one of my goldfish burned himself on it and was darting around smashing into the sides of the tank. Since I don't have it in there he's fine now. Do I really need one or do i need a certain water temperature to avoid putting a heater in. One is a standard Goldfish the other is a Red fantailed Goldfish

I got a new goldfish a while ago and didn't QT him. To get straight to the point he brought some nasty, nasty ich to my tank that whipped out all my other goldfish in about a week. I bought some medication. but it sucked.
He is my last fish left and he is in now in a medicine tank. I change at least 25% of his water a day split Quick-cure dosage to two drops in the morning and two drops at night (he is in a 5-6 gallon tank i'm guessing).
Right now his mouth is super red and it looks like he has skin flaking off of his head. His eyes are cloudy. The other goldfish died from the salt grain ich. His looks different though. I ordered another medication online that's suppose to treat everything from fungus to ich. in case something else is going on.
He won't eat.. he's too sick.. my question is.. how long can he go without eating? He last ate a little over a week ago. What should I do? He seems to be swimming around a bit more instead of staying at the bottom. Is he getting better?

its a 3 week old 4 ft tank it has 8 plattys and a ship in it, i recently had a ph level of 4 and this morning when i saw the fish i thought he was dead cause he was sitting at the bottom on the tank not moving and kinda curved over, when i tried to pick him up he slowly sucked the rocks and moved away on his side. i kept him in there to see if he is just being silly and i notice his gills are a little pinkish, becuase he is at the bottom he is not eating and hasnt really moved all day except to move his eyes and fins, anything you can telll me would be great .

One of our colubian sharks sadly died on friday. I had a sneaky suspicion it was going to; all it did was lay on the bottom of the tank and moved only once in a while. His flesh was really dark too. Now, our second one is just laying on the bottom of the tank. It's flesh looks fine; it's still a nice silver but it's not very mobile. All the other fish seem fine.
Does anyone have any idea how to tell when they're sick? or what I can do to make sure it survives? Should I go brackish now?

I went to PetCo and Petsmart, they are wanting like $200+ for a 29 gallon acryllic fishtank.

This seems pretty high to me, I see some places on the internet advertizing 49 gallon tanks for the same price... but none of them seem to have 'mail order' or 'internet order' just through their stores...

Anyone have any ideas on places on the internet I can order a fishtank in the 150$ range? Gonna be using it for fancy goldfish so 10 to 15 gallons per fish.

So my fiance has a betta in a small tank that I bought her a while back. The little guy is great, has a filter and heater, builds his little bubble nest. The thing is, she doesn't like the gravel I picked out. She wants to know if she can use buttons. She has a whole bunch that used to be her grandmother's and wants to use them insteas of gravel. There is plenty to cover the bottom as well as the rocks do, but would it be safe?

my concerns are coatings on the buttons, are there any? If so is there any way to get it off? Would using buttons as a substrate harm the fish in anyway?

When sarcophyton and/or lobophytum, shed can the waxy mucus harm other corals? I know that the water flow needs to be good and this causes the shedded material to flow throughout the aquarium... Also, I have heard that leathers can have a negative impact on stony corals, is this true? Thanks so much!

I just bought two green spotted puffer fish from Wal-mart. I realize that they're barick fish so they need both fresh and salt water. I just changed them out of my bigger tank because I have guppies in the other one. Anyway, now they're swimming around crazy? Could this possibly mean that they're dying? Or is there something I can do to correct this?

Well there were 4, now there's only one. Somehow the other 3 escaped the breeder trap. Anyway, how long should I let the new Mommy sit in the trap? I feel bad and I want to let her out, but I don't know how long it will take to have all of the babies, if there are any more.

I have 2 Silver Arowana in my 75 gallon tank. Having read a previous article about arowana jumping, I need help in Arowana behavior. I know what is legal and not so please give me educated answers. I have done extensive reading up on them, but I cannot find any articles on thier particular behavior patterns. My bigger one is almost a foot long now, and prefers to eat Rosies. The smaller one is about eight inches long, and prefers crickets. There are two decent sized oscars in there with them, an Irian Jaya Tiger barb, 2 7 inch Irid sharks, one good sized lavendar Gourami, male, and an assortment of pleco's and cat's for cleaning. The bigger one looks like he is having speed races back and forth in the aquarium, and the smaller one looks sick. He will move around, but sometimes will sit dormant at the top. Ammonia level reading of .2 and nitrite at .3. I cannot seem to get it to zero. Advice? Please be very specific.
