Well there were 4, now there's only one. Somehow the other 3 escaped the breeder trap. Anyway, how long should I let the new Mommy sit in the trap? I feel bad and I want to let her out, but I don't know how long it will take to have all of the babies, if there are any more.

The guy who said 12 hours is correct. If you dont remove her after the 12 hours though she will began to eat her fry. Platies dont have anything to do with their fry after birth, they are on their own from that point on. Dont feel bad about moving her, trust me your fish wont mind and will probably be happier to be out of the confines of the breeder net. The reason you want to wait 12 hours is to make sure your fish is totally finished with her birth and then allowing a little time for her to rest afterwards. Good luck with your moma and your fry.

when my platies had babies i just shut the filter off or you can screen off the part of your tank near the filter because that is how i lost alot of baby fish, then i made sure i had alot of plants and structures to allow them to escape from the flow of the filer, so you don't have to worry about the trap so much as the baby fish do not get sucked into the filter

Give her at least 12 hours from the time she started having the babies.
