I dont think so. I use them and quite big ones that hangs on the tank corners. If there was a problem, then those filters would not had sales in the shop.

I don't think this is the case or they wouldn't be making them! Hang on power filters would have the same affect. My protein skimmer is close to the corner and I haven't had anything happen.

I really doubt it. Interesting thought though. I can't find any research that has ever been done on the subject at all, but in my personal opinion I can't see it having any effect on the fish.
