I picked up a middle aged Calico Walking Catfish this weekend. He's a freaking awesome hyperactive monster.

I got him acclimated after a day or so... 80 degrees was way too hot for him... 75 seems much more his style.

Anyways... I let him out of his acclimating cage & he's doing battle with the adult convict cichlids in the tank. I plan on moving them out to a new tank I'm cycling right now, but I'm just curious how they would fare in a prolonged fight? They are antagonistic to each other.... He'll go steal some babies & run away. They'll sneak up behind him when he lays down to rest / sulk & nip his abdomen.

It doesn't look like the convicts are strong enough to do any damage to him (since he's like 5x their size), and he's too slow to catch them when he goes after them most of the time. I know they say convicts can take down oscars several times their size... howabout this meanie?

The male convicts are about 4.5 inches long & the females are about 2.5 inches long.

The creepie crawlie is about 13 inches x 7 inches (circumference)

How big is this walker? Like MM said, it probably will only be minor spats until the walking cat is large enough to eat one of the cons. It might not seem likely, but at night, when the cat is out and about the cons aren't quite as sharp... I would be more worried about the cons.

I would say your observations are entirely correct. They will pick at each other and stay on each others nerves but rarely have a serious confrontation. The only thing I could possible see is the potential for the catfish to get large enough to eat one of the convicts as time went on. Other than that I think it would be limited to constant mutual harassment.

sure, a Convict Cichlid might want to harass/attack a Corydoras. you may want to purchase a Emerald catfish. appears like a Bronze Corydoras yet is larger at 3-4". you may want to favor 3 on the least, and nonetheless their enormous length might want to not seem after them.

I had problems with my convict cichlid attacking my green terror. My green terror was twice his size. Every time I clean the tank he comes after me.
