Goldfish are fairly messy fish. They're also fast growers and won't be able to stay in a tank that size for long. Eventually, they'll need a 20-30 gallon.

The cloudiness you see is a bacterial bloom - this is a good thing to have, despite how it sounds. The fish produce ammonia, which is toxic to them. The bacteria will convert the ammonia to nitrite (also toxic), then nitrate, which is not toxic in moderate amounts. Building up a bacterial population like this is cycling - see the link below for a more detailed explanation.

Until you get an adequate bacterial population, the fish will be at risk for ammonia and nitrite poisoning. You'll need to do 25% water changes 1-2 times a week to keep the levels low. You can also get a water testing kit to monitor the actual levels so you'll know when a change is needed.

Also, be sure you aren't overfeeding - only give what the fish will eat in 2-3 minutes, twice a day.

Well first off your torturing your goldfish! You need at least a 10 gal. (a 15 gal. would be better) Your tank is cloudy because Goldfish produce a lot of ammonia. That's why you need to upgrade to a 10-15 gal. The average lifespan is 20 years. If you keep them in that they'll probably live to 20 days. So I'd go today and get a 10-20 gal! Pellet food is always good to change to, too. I have 2 healthy goldfish in a 16gal. tank. one of them is 6 and the other one is 2. I feed my fish 3 medium sized pinches every other day.

Well first you shold make sure the filter works. Most filters need to be changed or cleaned every month or so so you should also check that. You also need to make sure that you're changing to water on a regular basis. I found that every 2 weeks or so is enough, and you should change 10 to 50 per cent of the water. Like someone said, goldfish are messy little guys so you have to make sure you clean up for them. Good luck!

Make sure that the filter is clean and working and feed them a little less at a time. Cloudy water is sometimes a result of too much food in the water at a time.

Clouds form when water evaporates from rivers, ponds, oceans, and lakes. The air containing this evaporated water vapor rises and expands at higher altitudes where the air pressure is lower. The expanding air cools, and as this cooling occurs, the water vapor condenses (changes) from a vapor to a liquid. Many tiny water droplets form and a cloud is born.

Conditions have to be just right for clouds to form. Nature needs tiny droplets of water, something for the droplets to cling to (particles like dust, salt, or smoke) and the right temperature.

A variety of cloud types form depending upon their height, air movement, and the amount of water vapor and condensation particles.

Goldfish give off a lot of ammonia which makes the tank cloudy!

it depends on whether it is anew tank or not. if it is a new tank you may just be experiencing new tank syndrome. otherwise if it an older tank and has been running for a while, then you may need to change the carbon in the filter.

P.S. 2 goldfish is not too much as long as you do regular water changes.
