My cichlids had about 100 babies. I didn't even know they had been mating. As I was unprepaired for this I don't know know what to do from here. My question is, Will the parents eat or kill the babies? Should I remove the babies from the tank or leave them as they are?

I have a 44 gallon tank, 3 goldfish, and extremely cloudy water, you almost cant see the fish! it has been set up for just over 3 weeks. water tests show high pH and high ammonia, i bought every product known to man to fix these, it seemed to go down a little, but is still cloudy? it is a freshwater tank, and i am getting soo frustrated! The petstore told me to stop doing water changes until it settles?! any suggestions?

My betta fish Murphy was rescued from Wal-Mart by my mother and sister-in-law and given to me as a Christmas present. I've attempted the "mirror experiment" several times to illicit a response from him, and he never gives me one! He either ignores the mirror completely or glances at it and swims away.

I have him in a one gallon desktop aquarium with a golden apple snail. I've had him for over 2 months and he seems to be doing fine--good color, nice fins, active, all that. He even occasionally pecks at Mookie (my snail.) Their water is changed weekly and I always make sure the water temp is where it's supposed to be.

What's wrong with my fish? Is non-aggression a personality trait that some bettas possess or should I be worried?

I have a plescostomus and two fantail gold fish in a tank, I only recently put the pleco in there, which there was some algae so he's been eating that. I just put in one of those sinking algae disks and the goldfish are going after it.... Is that okay for the goldfish?

Last night, i turned the light off in my tank and sat and watched for a while. I could here this clicking noise. Then out of my live rock come a worm looking thing, it was about the thickness of a piece of wool and looked weird.

Does anyone have any idea what it is and if it is bad.

i have a few platies that look like they are getting fatter(pregnant?) and i have read tons about gravid spots but i'm still not sure exactly where they start. i know they look like crescent moons. 4 out of 5 look like they have crescent moons that start close to the anal fin but go all the way up teir backs. anyone know where i can find a picture of a gravid spot or if you are sure this is it let me know. thank you so much. p.s. i did have 10 platies and the others had none but i think may have been killed off by my male. it is pretty big so is that a possibility too? i am assuming this is the male because it is the only one without a dark crescent moon type thing. lol...sorry for all the questions but i love asking questions on this site.

the shrimp pellets seem to be very messy and most of it just settles into the gravel, i also feed them sinking algae disks, but i dont feel like they are satified with just this, they may occasional get some flake fish food but that is mostly eaten before reaching the bottom

He is turning 26 and I thought I would get him a Betta fish. I have had one for a year now and I love it. He babysat mine when I went on vacation last summer and I think he really liked it. Should I get him one of his own all set up with a tank for his birthday?

I had a 120 LT mixed African tank and before i moved them to the 400LT i had noticed, on occasions, that the fish would scratch against the sand.

I started searching the inet for information and the closest that could describe it was Ich. But the problem was besides the scratching the showed no other symptoms.

Fortunately and after an article i found on this site it was probably water parameters since i am now monitoring them closely and I don’t have any scratching going on in the new tank.

However having read the what can happen if your fish catch Ich (Or any other disease for that matter) i am concerned.
Is it worth setting up a UV on the system? I have heard controversy opinions on this subject.

My fish tanks problems, have spanned several weeks and questions here, and therefore the whole story is rather long, all the details I have posted here for reference:

http://bbb.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=46;t=000221

The bulk of my new question is here:

Finally getting smart, I figured maybe my tank was never cycling as much as I was changing the water, so I've just left it alone for about a week now. (I haven't done any water changes since the change to the 20 gallon tank). It’s been a little over a week so I had the water checked today:

Chlorine - 0
Ammonia - 0.5
Nitrate - 20
Nitrite - 10
Hardness - 75
Alkalinity - 80
pH - 7.8

Since my Nitrate and Nitrites are finally testing something other than zero, I assume this means my tank is finally beginning to cycle? How do these levels look for week and half old tank roughly? Should I do anything, or wait it out longer and see what the water checks in another week?

Thanks in advance!
