im keen on breeding fighting fish but dont necesarily want to get the same reds blues or purples as an outcome. i want to have an out there range of colours, ive seen yellows and even heard of emerald green ones. how hard would it be to get some and if possible in the sydney area.
would it be a good idea to one, keep the males seperate (obviously) but with the females if they arent the same colour should i keep them in seperate tanks??
lastly i have recently purchased a white almost ghost like male. when i breed it with females will his genes make his offspring pale or even kind of bleech out others???
thanks for your time and i hope to get some good answers soon

I have a 10 gallon planted tank. I have a full spectrum bulb, a CO2 maker that uses sugar and yeast, flourish excel, and eco complete substrate. I spent all this damn money on it and for some reason the plants dont seem to be doing very well. Why is this? Any one please help!!!

I have an Axelotal that had to be rescued from my brothers tank that has been munched on by his other fish.
His tail and what did look like a weird set of ears is pretty messed up. My tank is home to an Angel fish and need to know if this could be a problem for either of them

OKay, so I've had my betta fish for about two-three months now, and recently I've noticed these black specs all over his tank.

They are not actually on the fish, but they are on the fake plants, the gravel, decorations, and even a tiny bit on the tank walls. My betta does not seem to be bothered visibly by this, I have seen no change in behaviour, apetite, appearence, etc, so I don't think that they are causing any harm as of yet.

He lives in a 2.5 gal tank, unfiltered, and (I know, it's bad) the water hasn't been changed in maybe 2 1/2 weeks. His water temperature is 79-80 degrees roughly, and there are no other animals or living plants in the tank.

Every day the number of little black specs increases, and I'm getting worried.

What are those black specs, how/should I get rid of them, and are they dangerous to my fish??

Thank you!

Thank You for all your responses.
The tank is now set up, somewhat cloudy for now but getting clearer by the hour. I used the live sand/coral mix plus 35 gal of pure spring water. My salt level is alittle low right now, but I will wait a few days to stabilize it, maybe a few more cups will do it. The pumps are up and running just fine although I'm alittle concerned about the power head, its working fine but I noticed the temp in the tank is at 80 without the heater on. The house temp with the AC on is 78. Is this a known problem? The pump is a Maxi-Jet 600 I have it set for a minimum of air injected at this time.
Ok I did use the proper PH but I was told it was ok, I will not use it anymore unless it really needs it, I should know better after raising a fresh water tank for 15 years.
I had to get in there to clean the glass as it had salt lines from the fill up, magnet cleaner.
DanielleZ I did E-mail you with questions, with no response.

One of my skirted tetras died this morning. I returned him and got another. Since I added him/her it has been following another around. Are they going to breed and if they do will they kill other skirted tetras that come near them? I dont care if they eat their eggs because I dont want anymore right now. But I dont want any less either!

EXAMPLE: A filter for up to 80 gal. on a 30 gal. tank. Will it keep nitrate level very low and allow for more fish in the tank? If so which filter is better a penguin or an emperor. Also, what about a protein skimmer and a powerhead, what is the best cheapest in the market for a 30 gal. What else would I need (for slatwater setup)?
::I have a 30 gal. tank, Stress Coat, Cycle, Quick dip testers, Hydrometer, salt mix, 10lbs of live rock, gravel, Aqua Safe, air pump.
The tank has been cycling for almost two weeks now with live rock and snails on an inferior filter, additives/water conditioners(Cycle, Stress Coat Etc.). I need to buy a better filter with Bio Wheel set up and a protein skimmer. If im missing anything let me know I could use the help.

It was just a fish, and I know this is going to sound stupid, but he died less than an hour ago, and I still feel like crying. How can I handle the pain I'm feeling right now? I really loved him, he was the sweetest goldfish, only 8 weeks old. The ammonia in his tank surged, despite proper care. My family did everything we could. Yet, I still feel as though this is all my fault. How do I deal with this?

I have got my 55 gallon freshwater aquarium set up and am looking to get my first batch of starter fish tomorrow. My question is, while main tanks are best set up from scratch, is it alright if my quarantine tank is a 5 or 10 gallon starter kit? Obviously, I don't need to get the best of equipment, since my fish will use this tank temporarily while ill or getting ready for the main tank. Is this okay? Just something that does the job?

My algae eater has gotten rather large. It is approx.3 years old.I have had 2 fish die and they were slick. All scales were gone.I did see the algae eater sucking on one of the dead fish.I thought it was already dead, but now i wonder if the algae eater is the culprit.Should i remove it or is this my imagination?

I have a sailfin pleco that was normally very active. He would swim around sucking up bloodworms during feeding times and be all over the tank (55 gallons).

He has started to become lazy lately and just hangs out in one or two spots in the tank.

He's about 9 inches long, has good colour, and no nips or marks on him.

The water is good quality, nitrate, ammonia levels, temp and ph are normal.

Is it normal when they get bigger to be lethargic or is he unhappy/unhealthy?
