tiger barbs are egg scatters so their eggs aren't in any one place. The male doesn't fertilize the eggs until they're outside the female. This page gives some pretty good info on tiger barbs and some specifics on the mating.

Tiger barbs are egg scatterers. They lay eggs randomly in any substrate such as on roots or on plants.

Okay, this is how you can tell if your tiger barbs are ready to mate. The male's nose will usually get red, and the female will get plump with eggs. The male tiger barb will be in a aggression state, while the female will be in a submissive state. The female will "pertend" she is being chased by the male, and she will choose where to lay her eggs.

REMEMBER THAT TIGER BARBS EAT THEIR EGGS!
