Most any fairly peaceful fish of a similar size will work with gourami. Gourami can be a bit territorial and a little aggressive so you will need to watch the addition of any rather small fish, but as long as they are about the same size or really fast swimmers (like Danio) you shouldn't have any problems at all.

Compatible tankmates: Suitable tankmates include Siamese Flying Fox, Corydoras sp, Black Ruby Barb, Harlequin Rasbora, Upside Down Catfish, Otocinclus, Elephant Nose and Clown Loach.
Avoid: Tankmates to avoid include Tiger Barbs (all colour forms) and Algae-eaters. Male Gouramis may become aggressive towards each other, so more than one male in a tank should be avoided.

Gouramis should get on with any other fish in a community tank. If they are going to be aggresive its generally with their own kind, however it is rare.

I had a tank with three gouramis, two angels, two clown loaches and a really fat goldfish, lol. It was a pretty tank with all the multi colored fish.
They all got along really well.
