I'm thinking that my pleco might be dead. He hasn't come out of his cave in a couple of days. Usually he does come out for a while but still stays in the shadows. Would a pleco float if he was dead or would it be possible for him to still be in the cave. I have looked in the cave to see his position and it hasn't changed. Also, he hasn't touched any algae discs that I have put in the tank. Any thoughts?

I have a 55 gal freshwater African Cichlid Tank with one Pleco. The Pleco eats lots of Algae thus he creates a lot of poop and it is really making the tank look disgusting. Are there any fish or invertebrates that will eat the poop as part of its diet?

I understand Betta fish blow bubbles when their happy or horny or what have you. But now my fish started zipping back and forth back and forth in his tank all day long. He's not eating his food as aggressively either. And he's flaring 80% of the time. Why is he acting like this?

I bought these two goldfish back in August of 06 from Walmart. I did not have the slightest faith that they would live past two weeks.Suprise I still have them today! Any way, in November I noticed that one fish started to have a silvery apperance on it's belly.it soon spread to the whole fish and now it is completely silvery white! it is albino white. my other fish is orange in color...however I am starting to notice that now it's scales are changing silver also..help? I am a novice when it comes to fish.

I have a few planted tanks, and up until now I've had pretty good luck. One of my tanks is going wild with black beard algae. I'll change about 1/3 the water and it will appear to die for a day and then come back twice *** strong a couple days later.

I was operating under the assumption that it was caused by excess phosphate levels and elevated nitrate levels. But now I'm reading contradictory reports that its caused by elevated iron levels in the water column.

What gives? Does anybody know for real the best way to combat it and its root causes from EXPERIENCE, not from internet links.

I bought the quick cure ick treatment, the stuff that turns the tank blue. I treated them for 3 days like it said, but two of the fish still have a white film on them and are lithargic. Today I noticed the film falling off one of them. The package said only treat for 3 days. But I read that the only time the treatment works is when the parasite falls off. Should I continue to treat the tank? What are my chances of saving the fish? My 6 yr old is already devastated from the first fish dying, I would like to try and save the other two. Any help would be appreciated.

One of my Bettas is almost 3-years old, and I've noticed that he has trouble eating nowadays. He quickly finds the food and goes to the food, but then he can't seem to open his mouth to eat the food. He kind of just lunges at it. Is this behavior "normal?" Is he getting a bit old and senile? Is there anything I can do for him?

I am planning to buy 2 fantail and 2 ryukin goldfishes from petsmart. I learned that they would grow upto 6 inches and 25 gallon tank should be the minimum i must look at.
I am looking for some advice from the aquarium owners/goldfish owners on the right size for the tank. I want my goldfishes to live longer, so I dont want to completely rely on the advice from petsmart. Also the tanks seem pretty expensive, is there a store/website that sell not-so-expensive aquariums?

I got the tank all set up last night with everything, water, filter and decorations. I also put the packet of stuff in that makes the water safe for fish. how long should I wait till I put some fish in it? I just want to be sure the water is safe and a good temp. Also... if I put the heater in it, what temp should that be on?

It is a 20 gallong freshwater tank. Nitire is a little high right now, but going down. There is a Blue Platy and Silver Molly in there right now, live plants. I keep having to buy new sucker fish because about 1 week later they will die. I have been putting Algae Waffers in about every 3 days as added food but they dont seem to eat it (at least the last one did not). Any suggestions at what I am doing wrong?
