Nope, only 1 fantail could live in there and only for about a year before you would need to upgrade to a 20 gallon.

If it is the 10 gallon tank that you are firmly set on, then you cannot have goldfish. Even one goldfish will eventually outgrow the tank. If you want to stick with the 10 gallon tank, you should go for small tropicals, such as tetras. With tetras, you could have about 5 and they would look very nice. I would not suggest a pleco, they get too big. Try a catfish such as an oto or a cory. They stay smaller and would work much better. If it is fantails that you are set on, then you must have a large tank. If you don't want to buy a new tank after a couple of years, you need to plan ahead and get a tank that will provide 20 gallons of water per fish. So, for even 2 fancy goldfish, you would need a 40 gallon tank. Before buying any fish, please read up on cycling the water, the nitrogen cycle, how to properly do water changes and tank cleaning, how to test the water and how to identify and treat diseases. The more knowledge you have, the happier and healthier your fish will be and that will make you happier too! Good luck!

Fantails grow big and don't forget they are very messy!
A mistake I made was putting fantails in a tank to speed up the process when it was cycling, now I have 2 HUGE fantails and have to restrict which fish I have in that tank (it was going to be a community tank). They also like to eat all the food before the little fish have a chance to get tot the surface.

But in my 100lt tank, I have 2 X 4inch long fantails, 3 x black mollies, 2 angel fish, 1 x dwarf gourami, 1 X bristlenose (a friend gave that to me after she thought it was a baby pleco(?) some aquarium shops need to label thier tanks better) and 2 X Chinese Algae Eaters.

Fantails still look great in an aquarium, but just think ahead when it come to Gold Fish Varieties.

the element is, your fantail goldfish needs a lot a lot extra room. easily, it's going to opt for 20 gallons of water in case you opt for it to live on. They improve to 6 inches of length and are 15 cases extra poisonous than your a million~2 inch goldfish. The white/cloudy water will be because of: a million) Ammonia develop due on your fish. this can finally burn your fish to demise... if its inner organs do not outgrow its body via then. 2) New tanks have a tendency to reinforce this gross white slime stuff. without a clear out, you're fantastically a lot stuck with it till you sparkling your tank. 3) Its from the gravel. Did you rinse it properly? 4) all the above. the merely fish that could stay saftely and thankfully in a a million gallon tank is.. oh wait.. there are not any. :)

for 3 or 4 fantails you'll need 30 or 40 gallons when young and then a minimum of 50gallons when full grown. 10gallons aren't really suitable for goldfish, they're better for tropical fish. if all you want is a 10gallon I'd suggest getting tropical fish instead.

*edit*
no, plecos get very big. if you want something that eats algae I recommend a single mystery or apple snail instead. but sure, tetras are good, and depending on what kind you get you can have up to 7 in a 10gallon. but there are lots of different kinds of fish you can choose from for a 10gallon tropical.

here's a great site with a few suggestions for 10gallon tanks:

One goldfish per ten gallons please, and even that will eventually be too small. Try smaller species of fish. Look at adult size before you buy and do your homework. Keeping fish is a hobby and requires dedication and work. Know what your in for before you start.
