One of my Bettas is almost 3-years old, and I've noticed that he has trouble eating nowadays. He quickly finds the food and goes to the food, but then he can't seem to open his mouth to eat the food. He kind of just lunges at it. Is this behavior "normal?" Is he getting a bit old and senile? Is there anything I can do for him?

I've had bettas for many years in real tanks not those little bowls and they seem to get anorexic after a couple years but mine always lived a few more years and just ate on the days they felt like it. If the tank is clean and the water filtered and he looks good and he is not being bullied by other fish I wouldn't worry. Mine would even take the food and then spit it back out! But they lived several years after this starts. Who knows exactly why when any animal is being kept in captivity as it's not their normal environment.

Good Luck.

Just keep the water condition good till he's last day. Who knows, you may really be that lucky person with an extraordinary long-life Betta!

If that's the only problem you are noticing it's probably old age starting to kick in and there isn't much at all you can do about that. He will most likely start eating better soon though.
