and they are swimming only near the very top of the tank. The temperature is 77 degrees and they prefer 64-80. Is this normal or tis this unusal. I have a ten gallon tank by the way but they are not swimming close to the sides. Also there are tetras in the tank

They should be fine, mine stay at the top most of the time and never calm down. They should be fine with your tetras too. If you're worried about the temperature you can turn the heater down a little but, but tropical fish don't mind it warm. Also, I find that the light in my aquarium really heats it up alot, so keeping it off more might help.

What are your water conditions like? Have you checked the levels of ammonia, nitrites, etc? Do you have a source of aeration in the tank? Danios tend to be middle to upper swimmers, so if both these things are at a good level, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

By the way, tetras are not aggressive, and should not be kept in a vase. Ever.

That's pretty much normal for danios. They are top water fish and will stay there most of the time.

You can't mix those too. Tetras are highly aggressive. That's why you're other set of fish only swim on the top. I suggest seperating them. tetras can be in a vase.
