Make sure you fill it back up with water and then turn it back on.
If it still doesn't work, which happens to me sometimes, move the suction tube over a bit or take it off and take a pen or pencil and turn the impeller because it's probably jammed. If that doesn't work then you will have to buy a new pump.
The fish will be fine for a couple of days but I wouldn't let it go too long.

There might be some algea and gunk on the impeller which is preventing it from starting..take out the impeller and wipe it clean with a paper towel... reinstall ..fill the filter with water from the tank and plug it in...Oh by the way you can check your filter by holding the
impeller on the outside next to the motor..if you feel a vibration then the filter motor is still good!

My sister-in-regulation and her husband spent the evening as quickly as and desperate to tutor off the filter out on the a hundred and fifty gallon aquarium in our front room because of the fact they might pay attention it. It had many high priced fish we had raised for years in it. interior the morning all of them have been lifeless. in case you had purely some fish particularly of a crammed inhabitants, the reality that the fish are new and small might at first help them proceed to exist an episode or 2 of having the filter out grew to become off. even however those with very high priced fish, which incorporate marine fish and stay coral, will purchase potential backup structures which could fee hundreds of greenbacks reckoning on length, because of the fact they don't desire the filters to ever bypass off. There are filters that are so quiet, you're able to look on the water popping out to work out in the event that they are grew to become on. I surely have 3 FX5's on different tanks, and that's certainly genuine of them. the only sound they make is whilst the programming turns them off for variety of 5 minutes as quickly as an afternoon so as that trapped air interior the filter out can "burp" out of the equipment.

Depending on the type of filter system, perhaps there is a reset button (common among electrical appliances near water) or a fuse burned out and needs replacing. Or the gravel got sucked back in when the flow suddenly stopped, blocking a gear...

You may have to reprime your pump and adjust the intakes. Sometimes when the suction is broken the tubes slip and need to be realigned.
