Last night, i turned the light off in my tank and sat and watched for a while. I could here this clicking noise. Then out of my live rock come a worm looking thing, it was about the thickness of a piece of wool and looked weird.

Does anyone have any idea what it is and if it is bad.

Yep you have a bristle worm. Honestly, they are a good addition to your clean up crew as long as you keep them under control. They will start to come out during the day. If you email me, I will show you a picture of mine, he is 9 inches long and looks fierce! They pose no problem with your tank mates and banded coral shrimp eat the smaller ones. They are really good for keeping the worms in line.

I was going to remove him however I've had the rock in the tank for almost 6 years and he posed no problem Heck, I didn't even know he was there! I often wondered where the extra food went, I thought the star fish was eating it....until I saw this THING! crawl out of my rock. DO NOT TOUCH it with your bare hands. They will put you into a world of hurt like no other and most ER's don't know how to deal with it. If you want to remove it there are a couple of ways. The easiest way to collect the bristles are with an old piece of panty hose. put a piece of fish or shrimp or pellet food inside the panty hose and tie it up. Tie a string to it and let it sit next to your rock, not too close since you want the worm to come most of the way out. His spines will get tangled in the panty hoes and you can just pull them out of the tank. Again....DO NOT TOUCH them. Even when handeling live rock, you should always wear rubber gloves. You would be suprised as to what is living in there!

Honestly, if it hasn't posed a problem, leave it. If you are afraid he will take over with little ones, remove it.

If this is a saltwater tank, then the worm may be a bristle worm. These worms are pink. They are good and bad. They can help shake up the substrate. They get bad when they overpopulate. If you have to remove some when they're overpopulated, be careful as they sting (through their bristles).
I am not as familiar with freshwater tanks so if its freshwater, I can't help you with that.

bristle worms are not bad just make sure you dont touch them they will sting you
theres a big debate about these worms some people say theyre good some people say theyre bad if you wanna keep coral
i think theyre plain ugly anyway if you want to get rid of them you can either buy a trap or a sixline wrasse that will take care of them
also you should listen carefully to your clickin noise
sometimes its just crabs knocking their shells against the glass. If its coming from inside the rock than it could be a pistol shrimp(good) or a mantis shrimp(bad)
