Dogs - August 2007

Hello,

I have a Labrador and she has been really tired lately - when I take her for walks she is usually 3-4 metres in front of me, but now shes 2-3 metres behind me. She is 6 years old, and has recently been peeing in her kennel/bed and not getting up to pee. What could be the problem?

As i was driving home tonight, i saw this dog walking around my complex, he had a tag on, i chased him, tried to stop him, all he did was bark and look at me weird, so I left him alone, but i felt bad and came back again trying to find him, drove around my block, finally found him, gave him one of my dog's treats trying to get the number but he was scary so I had no option but to leave him... ;-( What would you do? I feel bad cause i lost my other dog the same way, at the same time at night... I felt like I was reliving that nightmare, that's why I continued to get the number to call his family, but he wouldn't let me...

My dog has black/purple spots on its tongue. My mom use to tell me that the spots meant that she (the dog) was a Chow Mix. But my friend told me that it means that the dog is Pure Breed. Whoes Right & Whoes Wrong???

I just got a pit bull/golden retriever mix puppy. She is about three months old. I couldn't ask for a better puppy really. We've already been able to house train her and teach her to sit, half the time she will shake. She is so sweet and just tons of fun. But the fact that she is suppose to be part Pit Bull kind of scares me. All I hear are bad things about Pit Bulls. Is there anything I can do over the years to help teach her so she doesn't gain the bad traits of Pit Bulls? Also has anyone ever had a pit bull/golden retriever mix before or have pictures of one?

I was walking along the Champs in Paris a little over a year ago, and this big dog came pouncing up towards me- as large, if not larger than a German shepherd, but fluffy and white, kind of like a poodle or a bichon. It was very friendly. Unforunately, I did not ask the owner what kind of dog this was. Does anybody have an idea? I don't think it was a standard poodle, as I have checked on google, and the dog I saw was much bigger than the measurements for a full size.

My male chihuahua is not fixed and the friend whom gave him to me a year ago is going to give me his sister from another litter.
They both share the same parents, so far she refuses his advancements, thank goodness, but what if he succeeds?
how bad is this.....?
I obviously want to prevent this.
How can i stop him from trying to mate with his sister?
Won't he try to mate with her, even if i get him neutered?

I was in the car and I saw a really cute dog across the road. It has ears pointed up on top of its head and it had a longish tail. It was white and fluffy and has a fluffy stomach. It's a medium sized dog. It had round black eyes and a medium snout. I don't think it's a samoyed, retriever or collie but it's really cute. Please help me find out what it is. I hope these descriptons are helpful!

Max is a little over 6 months and a little over 60 pounds, he isn't fat but has a lot of muscle. When he stands next to the dining room table his eyes are over the edge he has a clear view of everything. His father is 110 pounds,mom is 70 if that helps.His paws are the size of the palm of my hand (medium sized cookie) My husband and I noticed that when he lays down and has his head up his shoulders almost look out of place they are extremely wide set but his chest doesn't fit into the space yet. Does this distance between his shoulders when he lays this way give any indication of how wide his chest will be when full grown? We know he will be a monster but if there are any things to indicate just how big of a monster we are curious to know. The bigger the better,hes a big baby no matter what.

My german shepherd is 4 yrs old and is knuckling and has a drunk gait.?

Blood panels have been run, xrays and most illnesses have been ruled out. He is getting worse everyday and is scheduled to have a MRI on Monday. He is also scratching a phantom itch with his hind leg regularly. He is seeing a neurologist but they do not have any answers either. Does anyone have any ideas?

My dogs are 18 months old and 4 months old but they can't eat all the food I gave them in breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I gave them dog food (pedigree or alpo) mix with rice and fish or meat. They are still energetic despite they don't eat a lot. But i love to see if my pets eat a lot to make them big, with nice body built. What should I do?

ok this summer we ( my family ) went to texas we took my dog to so anyways we stayed in my cosins house they have a undergroung pool very big i was trying to make my dog go in but he like wants to but dose not have the guts to jump in is there anyway i can get him into getting in

we just got a 5 week old puppy and the first night he slept here he pooped and peed fine..these last couple of days he hasn't pooped he just pees. he still on a milk replacement because he is so small and his mother wont breast feed anymore. I knoe i should take him to the vet but i wasn't sure yet..His stomach is hard , but he seemss fine...we are waiting to see if he will poop ...so far we've tried the old oil trick but no progress has shownn..please helpp mee..thank youu.!

I own a 55-60 pound beagle/lab mix. He eats, and has always eaten, Science Diet Nature's Best dry food. We rotate back and forth between chicken and beef. I have heard some bad stories about food that you thought was good food. Has anyone heard any good or bad things about this brand?

I already asked this but no one took it the right way. My dog (papillon) hasnt been drinking much water and barely eats for the last week. Today I took her for a walk but she was unbalanced and slow. Her legs gave out a couple times. Later on i gave her soft dog food and she ate a tiny bit but thats it. I don't know what to do cause I'm only 14 and cant take her to the vet alone. I told my parents about it when she first stopped eating and drinking but they think shes just tired and shell get over it. I dont think that though and i really want to take her in but no one will take me. Ive begged my parents but theyre not listening and said to wait till morning. I have not neglected my dog and Im not a bad owner. I just feel helpless. What can i do for my dog until I get someone to take her to the vet??? Please help.
