I have a silky terrier (think a yorkie but slightly larger) and his hair was very matted...my fault, i know...anyways i shaved a good amount of his hair off today and noticed what appears to be a tick on the top of his head-ALMOST near his eye...it's gotten considerely larger (i noticed a little bump there a while back but didn't think much of it)

My question is...

How do you sucessfully remove a tick? Should I even attempt? Do those flea/TICK baths really make a difference? Or do you recommend a trip to the vet?

He was so scared and there seemed nothing I could do for him. I stroked, talked gently to him etc. etc. but nothing worked.
He only stopped shaking an hour after it stopped. There seems to be a lot in this area, in every second garden they were letting off the fireworks and the noise was tremendous.
Anybody having the same experience and is there anything I can do about it for next year. I do not want to "drug" him.

Hi,
I've had serious problems with finding a suitable puppy-food for my 5-month-old Lhasapoo puppy. Bubba is "picky" if you will, we've tried IAMS (which we *thought* was healthy, and now know different) and Science Diet (Which is vet reccommended - yet I'm told it's still unhealthy?) And he will *NOT* eat either. He seriously eats like two bites a day! Recently his IAMS food ran out (halelujah) and we went new-food shopping. We(aka; my mom - the one who can drive) don't have time to go to the nearest petstore(about 100 miles away) to get food, so we got him "Old Roy Puppy-food" .. he loves it! AHHH! First time ever, we gave him some, he gobbled it down! So strange. And all the other foods had CORN as the #1 ingredient, but Old Roy had bones & meat, brown rice, THEN corn. He seems to think it's "the heavenly" dog food, I just don't know how healthy it is...?

Hello again all. My pups are having some troubles today, oldest (and biggest) of the three started heaving earlier and coughed up some foamy liquid. I called the vet and she said not to worry about it as they are being weaned and getting used to solids and water. They have been eating solids for a few weeks now but this week mom rarely feeds them, so they are mainly on solids. They are eating well, pooping well, playful and energetic and I thought nothing of it. Well, now the runt did it. Has anyone ever experienced this before. I am consitering taking them to the all night clinic but they are all bouncy and doing fine other than the liquid (it was a very small amount)

Before too many people yell at me that I shouldnt have bred without knowing much.....their mother is a dog I rescued. 2 weeks after her rescue she gave birth. She is scheduled for her spay at the end of Nov and the pups have homes for when they are 12 weeks with contracts stating they must spay/neuter.

This question gave me a thought http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071031164821AAU6gcM&cp=2
Why do you own the breed you currently have? Were there reasons based on the personality, size, energy level that you chose your breed over others? I'm just curious why people choose the breed they own.

I was looking through the newest Avon campaign and this dog is on the cover and a spread in the front. I just want to know what kind of dog he is. Any ideas? My mom thinks its got to be some kind of terrier... here's the link:

My dog ate about a dime-sized piece of chocolate, I think. I'm not sure because nobody saw it happen but the chocolate is not where it's supposed to be. Is this something I should call the vet about? I know that chocolate is poisonous to dogs but I'm not sure if that little of it will do any harm.

I know this is not a question, I hope I won't get flamed for this but I just want some clues, advice or whatever facts about canidae dog food all stages. So yesturday I fed my dog Iams (I know not to feed it 100% at a time stay on topic please) and realized it was sh!t so for the benifit and better health of my dog I was reccomended canidae, artemis, eagle, timberwolf and EVO innova. I got canidae because it was the most well worth it, I know its not as good as timberwolf or EVO because it does contains grains, but then again its one of those A+ products along with timberwolf & evo, so I got it because of the feeding guide line wize, and comparing the price of lbs so I got canidae. If someone could please give me facts on this it would be helpful, the pet store owner also said not to get the 30 lbs one or something, the bigger one, because my pomeranian wouldn't be able to finish it in time, then the food will not be as fresh if I bought 6lbs which I have correct?

She is a golden retriever and her hips are pretty bad. About a month ago she went blind in her one eye and about 4 days ago she all of a sudden started limping. We think she may have had a stroke. She also seems to be deaf but we arent very sure. We are taking her to the vet soon, but meanwhile does anyone know what may be wrong with her?

My dog, a 7 yr old German Shepherd male, has bone cancer in his back right leg. We went to the vet; they said nothing could be done and that he should be put to sleep. He has one week left.

I really want to make this last week of his the best one he's ever had, but I don't know how to do that with his current conditions. He's limping, dragging along his bad leg. It hurts him also and it's not good for him to run too much, or walk.

I've been giving him an extra amount of treats, lots of belly rubs, and spending a lot of time with him. Is there anything else I could do that he would like? Besides any activities that would be using his leg.

Thank you so much! You're helping my dog have the best week of his life!
