How many of you, have used plain Mineral Oil, to either clean out the ear canal in your dogs ears or to kill ear mites in your dogs ears, and would you recommend it to others? What were the results? Did it help relieve the discomfort?

I don't know what she is but, she looks like a white lab w/ Wiemaraner eyes and instincts of a pointer (beautiful!) She runs loose all around the (rural) area, almost gotten hit a couple times, eats garbage. I thought she was agressive at first because she'd charge, then run off a bit, turn & bark, but I've learned otherwise.

It's taken a week, but when I finally got her to approach, she cowers, dips her head, tucks her tail crawling & peeing, rolling to display her belly (covered in fleas & bites). After she realizes you won't hurt her, she is Insatiably playful and incredibly smart-- give her a ball & she won't stop bringing it back to you! She spends hours with us daily in the yard, and won't go home. We took her home & saw her lazy owners left piles of poop on the LR floor.

She just needs a good home, people to pay attention, care & play w/her! I can't keep her b/c they'd know, but something needs to happen or she'll end up shot, hit/injured or dead.

What would you do?

i have 4 little doggies and they all seem to be eating in the same manner. meaning they always leave half of their food.
they are all fussy eaters so i do worry about them not eating enough. i also feel very sad to waste the food if they don't eat it. so i do leave it during the day for them to pick at. i know i shouldn't but i am worried thye don't get enough to eat and then i don't like wasting food. can i keep the old food and mix it in with the fresh?
thanks.

For the past 4-5 years we have made sure our local shelters do not have to euthanize pregnant dogs. Its horrible. As the mothers die the fetuses suffacate to death. This is why we ALWAYS pull mommas. I can not do anything about a pit bull we all live in cities where they are banned. Is there anyone in southern Ohio or Northern Kentucky that can help this busting momma.

Not all dogs react to fireworks, indicating it is not painfull. Their response is fear, which although paifull for a pet owner to witness, is only brought about once or twice a year. I get scared of many things, including barking dogs when i'm least expecting a large dog, and am annoyed by dogs barking on a daily basis, but it is a neccessary evil for this relationship between man and dog. So, pet-owners, just relax a bit, you get more up-tight than the actual animal.

No matter what it is, he barks and he has a very deep bark. Pyrenees are herding dogs but there is nothing here to herd. Jasper is only 8 months old.

PLEASE READ BEFORE ANSWERING

my dog is a 2yo staffy x and a few month back he started licking he's paws excessively, and then started to gnaw at them.
OF COURSE i took him to my vet, who tried a number of things - cone (elizabethan) collar, antibiotics, foot bathes.. to no avail.
i have since seen a dermatologist vet and we have realised that his paws are worn down so thin (SLIGHTLY bleeding at times) due to running on the v. rough concrete in my yard.
no matter how sporty and "durable" dog boots i buy, they are just not cutting it (he is VERY active).
SO i need to do something to get rid of the rough concrete.

I AM A UNI STUDENT AND DONT INTEND ON LIVING HERE FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE OF YEARS.
I CANT SPEND MORE THAN A COUPLE $HUNDRED.

so far i have thought of
- painting concrete with something smooth? is this going to work on very rough concrete
- putting down large rubber mats (expensive), a tarp (time consuming), mulch? (painful perhaps?)

any other ideas/thoughts?

My poor dog is scratching his skin red and raw. I feel sooooooo BAD for him, but I cannot take him to the vet since payday is 2 weeks down the road. I see NO fleas or any sort of critters of any kind anywhere. I have given him a bath and then someone suggested some benadryl. NOTHING is working/helping and he is CONSTANTLY still scratching or chewing himself to pieces. Is there an answer??? Is there a remedy till I can get him to the vet???

i have 16 month old male husky mix dog, and i decided to put a shock collar on him because he was utterly restless and showed very high levels of energy. Often he would run and jump around a lot in the house for no reason. When i walked him, his pace was way more faster than mine and i had to pull leash a lot.

But with shock collar he makes lots of grimacing faces and keeps on scratching around the collar repeatedly. He has stopped being restless and has slowed down, but it feels as if he is in utter discomfort. what to do?

My staffy is not a huge fan of water, whether it be from her water bowl or the rain, she does not like it touching her, and getting her in the bath is one huge drama! Now that my mum has started working away, there is no way i myself can even get her near the bathroom let alone the bath tub. I have tried all kinds of treats and the bugger will snatch and run. What can i do? she is starting to smell like a dog again.hahaha

will not accept Pit Bull type dogs of any age. and IF they make exception will put them down right away? No chances only the end! I think this makes people keep them then treat them irresponsiably just to keep them alive?
Your thoughts please?

I went to look at a GSD at the humane society today. I am thinking about adopting him. The lady who talked to me about him told me the owner gave him up because he was infertile. That does not bother me because I planned on having him fixed. They offered a discount on him because he can't produce puppies.

If I adopt him, Should I still have him fixed?

She bought over a friend whom I wasnt even aware of, when she walk past my room, my dog ran after her and bite her on the leg. I think she startled him, he never bite anyone before. I really want a Small, furry one! My parents have a chihuahua and I LOVE LOVE her, but I really want something different--like a maltese, shih tzu or Yorkie! I will have my own apartment and will be going to school, so I need something that isn't so "yappy." Any suggestions??

My dog gets very car sick. As soon as she gets in the car she starts drooling. She will puke and even poop it's gross! In order to take her to the vet and/or to get a rabies shot we need to control this. Is there anything I can give her to stop her car sickness?

Hi,
I have a no pull harness for my puppy. Recently she's starting attacking it and attacking me if I try to adjust it, put it on, or take it off. How can I stop her from doing this and just relax? I feel like I should just ignore her biting me when I put it on, because if I stop she'll know that biting will work. Sometimes she lets me put it on, but most of the time she's freaking out about it.

We adopted another dog a few months ago, a young lab, and he is very skiddish. Around the house, I am able to comfort him, remove objects he's scared of (oven mitts, bananas, b-day cards... you name it) or leave the object on the floor for him to investigate when he gets confidence.

Walking is completely different...He's a quick learner, and is pretty good on the leash. But he flips out over a lot of things (walking on asphalt, leaves on the ground, windchimes, people, etc.) He will start twisting and jerking (trying to run, cowering,) urinating on himself, etc. Yesterday, a road cone scared him so bad that he broke the clip on his leash and ran terrifed into the road.

I've been walking him on the same route (one with as few "scary" things I can find) since we adopted him. I've tried treats, stopping to calm him, touching the objects that scare him, etc. And we are very loving and patient...never abusive or mean.

How else can I calm him so he enjoys his walks?
