I don't know what she is but, she looks like a white lab w/ Wiemaraner eyes and instincts of a pointer (beautiful!) She runs loose all around the (rural) area, almost gotten hit a couple times, eats garbage. I thought she was agressive at first because she'd charge, then run off a bit, turn & bark, but I've learned otherwise.
It's taken a week, but when I finally got her to approach, she cowers, dips her head, tucks her tail crawling & peeing, rolling to display her belly (covered in fleas & bites). After she realizes you won't hurt her, she is Insatiably playful and incredibly smart-- give her a ball & she won't stop bringing it back to you! She spends hours with us daily in the yard, and won't go home. We took her home & saw her lazy owners left piles of poop on the LR floor.
She just needs a good home, people to pay attention, care & play w/her! I can't keep her b/c they'd know, but something needs to happen or she'll end up shot, hit/injured or dead.
What would you do?

She has a collar, but no tags. I'm new to the area but heard they've been reported before-- everything from their loose dogs pooing in peoples yards, to their garbage strewn driveway -they leave their bags out for days, wild animals tear them open & they refuse to pick up all the crap everywhere. Their carpet out there too (yes it was just plywood inside the LR w/poop on it). I'm guessing they kept her in so much she went all over it. They ripped it out & kick her out to do her business now.
When we returned her we told them our concern for her safety. Also, when bored she like's to steal out painting supplies-- another hazard. They apologized & took her but the next AM, there she was. She was with us more than 7hrs b4 they started calling for her.
The unwavering loyalty and desire to please, so wonderful about dogs, tragically keeps her running back when they yell. I'd love to keep her, but I think she has to go farther to be away from the situation...

i would call the ASPCA i think it is...let them know that these people just aren't caring for their dog...and they should take the dog away from them. Most likely the owners will deny any neglect...so i would take pics of the dog...or it running loose in the neighborhood...the fleas and bits on its belly...anything that proves they are neglecting their dog. Then once the dog is taken away...offer to adopt it...or find some one who would...just to make sure the dog gets a good home.

If you can keep the dog, ask the owner if you can have her. Let them know you can see she is full of fleas and appears to have been abused.
If not I would take the dog (without their knowledge) and find another home for it.
Taking it to a shelter would just make it more fearful and the dog doesn't sound very adoptable in new situations. I would be afraid the dog would be in a cage for months only to be put down eventually.
The world is a dangerous place,
not because of those who do evil,
but because of those who look
on and do nothing.
Edit: Rescues are almost always full especially the ones for mixed breeds.

Called the a.s.p.a they take matter like this very serous, they would put an end to it. They will take the dog away from the mean old guy and they will have a vet of there own to check the dog if the dog is hurt or sick they will arrest the filthy old man. and the best part of it is . That they will put the dog up for adoption and the dog will go to a good home were he is wanted and loved

Poor little one.
As for the owner, I'd report that person to animal control for neglect. Animal control can lay out the guidelines of proper care for her owners and can eventually take the dog away if things do not improve. The only downside is that she will probably not make it in a kill shelter because she is already in need of vet care and also is a medium/large mix breed.
Is she wearing a collar and tags when she is loose? If not and it happened again, I would scoop up that poor baby and find a rescue group to take her in. A rescue group will see that she gets the medical attention she needs, and will also find her a wonderful home.
To find rescue groups local to your area, visit petfinder.org
Thanks so much for caring about her - best of luck in helping her.

It doesn't sound like they'd miss her very much. Why not just ask them if you can keep her or offer them some money or something. Maybe they wouldn't even recognize her if she was finally able to get to a vet and get cleaned up. If anything, report the neglect so somebody can investigate (contact the ASPCA or the local police). You can always tell the authorities that you would like to take her if she is placed up for adoption. The worst thing you can do is ignore the situation. Good luck!

Contact your local shelter or animal control. They need to get her into the shelter for her own safety. In most areas owners of dogs running at large can be fined. If the owner doesn't claim the dog, then it will be adopted out of the shelter or taken into a rescue program.

sadly, this happens everywhere! maybe talk to the owners. they don't seem to want the dog. maybe they will give it to you. even if you can't keep her .not sure about your area!? if you have a ASPCA or SPCA, they may check this out if you call. my area dose not have an shelter & i see stuff like this all the time. this is why i have sooo many dogs all the time. thank you for caring & showing the poor dog there are nice ppl out there. :(

This is R..S.P.C.A. eyes is Neglect, its against the law here for any dog to be allowed to run free for one.
Me, to be honest i report the owners, if she is cowering, and peeing, that indicates to me fear. Sounds like you care about her alot, but for the well being of the dog and most importantly safety of car drivers, i report the owners, and Hopefully this dog will get all the love and care its needs.
Best of luck.

I would call the authorities so they would investigate. Anyone who leaves poop on the floor, and lets flea bites go untreated, can't be a good owner. And the behaviors you're describing are classic abuse behaviors.

Find a good owner, and secretly take her to them. I doubt she has a microchip. However, they might go get another dog, so call animal control or you'll end up w/the under ground rail road for dogs..lol.
