My Shih Tzu was the most precious little angel I could have ever had! She was the perfect size, loved to cuddle, and was wonderful with all people. And soooo cute. We just lost her but were so fortunate to have her for fourteen years. Ours was the runt of the litter so if you want a tiny one I would suggest picking the runt and a female. My best friend has a Yorkie who is very cute but a little bit on the wilder/ yappier side. Also, Shih Tzu's can be pretty independent as far as dogs go so it might be a good idea if you lead a busy life. Good Luck!

Well most of the small dogs are yappy and more needy. If you are going to school are you going to have enough time to invest in this puppy? They need lots of love and attention. I would say a good puppy would be a yorkie, there so dang cute!

Shih Tzu's are small and furry and aren't yappy! Maltese's are also great to have. Poms, and Yorkie's are the yippers .. I suggest Shih Tzu, though. :)

There is a quiz through animalplanet.com that you could take, among many other quizzes listed throughout the internet, but thats one right off the top of my head. Once you figure out a breed for you, I recommend checking local shelters. You can get great dogs there for a fraction of the price of a breeder, plus you can rescue a needy dog and feel great about it!

Go to the AKC website, and go to dog shows. You need to find a breed that is compatible with your lifestyle. Indoor dog? one that needs lots of exercise? What about shedding? Is the breed generally "destructive" if left alone all day? Will you crate him/her? If so, how will the breed react?
What about a breed's medical needs? If you're in school you don't want a breed that gets sick/injired a lot. $$$
Lots of questions that are as important as cuteness.

Go to the shelter and save a life, since you will be on your own and at school an older dog would be better because house training takes time and school will take alot of time from a puppy.

How long will this dog be alone if you are going to be in school all day? Puppies need lots of attention and training so if you are going to be letting it alone for 4 or more hours, I'd suggest not getting one until you can spend more time with him/her.
