My Yorkie had the same problem it is allergies most likely. I switched to Johnson's Baby shampoo and I home cook his meals and give him a premium kibble. All his hair has grown back and he is a much happier little guy. I think when they have allergies you have to look at everything that affects them. Don't bathe more than every 2 weeks when he is experiencing flareups as this irratates the skin also. I never found anything to help like the benedryl or cortisone. I did massage a small amount of EVOO on the itchy spots and it helped some.

Yes, you can get him some PROPER flea treatment. Flea baths don't work, no flea treatments from pet stores do. Pet stores aren't licensed to sell the proper chemicals for flea treatment - anything you find in store is just going to be a basic pesticide that you can't expect to work.
Get hold of some Frontline from a vets - you don't need to take the cat in get some. Get this spot-on on your dog's skin and he will be covered for a month. When you're paid, get some housespray from a vets too, and keep your dog regularly treated.
If people on here have told you to flea bath and use Benadryl well, that's prime example of why medical questions should not be posted on Yahoo - you get a bunch of rubbish in reply! Next time you have a question about an animal, please pick up a phone to vet to get a proper answer.

If you are certain its not a flea allergy (it only takes one flea bite). Its obviously an allergic reaction to something, it could be a plant in your yard, or something he comes into contact with on his walks. Where does he scratch at himself the most? A flea allergy will present itself above the tail and the chest, underbelly. A plant allergy will show up on his feet, legs and face. Try washing him in a dermatitas shampoo for a while, incase it might be a chemical reaction, my maltese x is very sensitive to commercial dog shampoo's. Other than that, its a good idea to keep a diary of where he has been each day and what he has come into contact with. Try to narrow his allergens down that way.. There's not much you can do until you get him to the vet, except, warm enviroments will make the itch worse. Put him somewhere cool if you can, without freezing him!! Don't allow him near a heater.. 2 wks is a long time to be scratching raw....

If there are no fleas then he could have an allergy. My dog scratched all her fur off on one spot of her back before we realized that she was allergic to the food coloring in her dog biscuits. Have you started him on a new type of food? There are other types of allergies that dogs can also have, too and that will have to wait until you see the vet.

Just keep an eye on him and stop him from scratching whenever you catch him doing it until you can take him to a vet try rubbing where he is scratching to remove any discomfort where he is scratching. And also I'd check with your vet as they may allow you to get him checked over now but pay on payday. It's worth a shot.

Your dog could have a staph infection or allergy or just really sensitive skin. My dad's dog was this way and had to have prednisone to calm it down. Call your vet and ask if they can give you a payment plan and take your dog in. Until you can get him there, give him a good bath with a very gentle shampoo - preferably one recommended for sensitive skin/itching and rub some lotion with aloe or lanolin into his skin.

it could be fleas as some dogs are allergic, or ring worm which is only visible in UV light or it could be stress or an allergy to his shampoo or a cleaning product u use around the house either way you need to get it fixed, in the mean time try wiping alittle eucalyptus and lavender oil on his coat (gets rid of fleas and soothes) and if you've got some give him an iodine bath

He sounds like he has got a skin allergy which will need medication, see the vet now or he will get worse, they let you have a payment plan so you can spread the cost of the treatment as they don't want to see your pet suffering either.

It could be that your dog's skin is dry, and bathing him to much, can cause more irritation and dryness. When i give my dogs their meals i usually put a bit of sunflower oil in their food, you can even try the tuna sause-the oily one. Hope this helps a bit
