I adopted a dog from a shelter a little over a week ago. For a few days he was great, but a little clingy. But now his attitude seemed to change; not to me, but he growls and get defencive against men that are just around. I can't stand it because it is mainly directed to my father and younger brother. He has never bitten them, but I would like to change his behavior before it gets that before.

I know that it is not lack of exercise for we run and go for walks everyday.

Sadly if he does not change I am going to have to get rid of him. He has never been mean toward me; in fact, for me he is generally obidient.

If you know of anything I would apprechiate knowing.

I live on a farm in Texas. It costs $100 to take her to a groomer. I don't want "pretty"..I just want her to be comfortable. She is an inside/outside dog.

We are getting a chocolate lab puppy this weekend. What is a good food that we can feed her? I want something better than Alpo but I can't afford Eukanuba.

Do you have any suggestions?

I'm reading up on the AKC standards for beagles just to find out a little more about them. There are some phrases that I don't understand:

"swayed or roached back"
"Stifles strong and well let down"
"Lips free from flews"
"Pasterns short and straight."
"Rat tail with absence of brush." (as a defect)

What are stifles, flews, pasterns and rat tails? And what do they mean when they say the dog's back is "roached" or "swayed"? What is chest depth?

I'm not intending to breed or show my dogs, I am reading for interest only.

Thanks.

If we bring him into our bed after we take him out at 3:30am, he does not urinate. If he is with us in the house all day, he does not urinate. He only does it when he's in the crate. We've tried everything. Making the crate smaller, taking him out every couple of hours, etc... He hates the crate, I don't want him to feel like it's a punishment. We leave the door open when we're home, he isn't afraid to go into the crate. I just don't get it.

The woman is selling him because she is pregnant and moving and it's too much for her. She's had him from a puppy and he seems VERY happy. Big personality, little body. She did get him from a pet store but has the paperwork with the lineage.

My two concerns, he has not been neutered and in the middle of each eye it looked like he had something in his eye. I thought it was gunk or maybe fuzz, but I looked closer and it's almost a grey spot, not fully cloudy. He doesn't seem blind or affected by it and like I said he is very happy and an outgoing dog.

We have another dog at home who is a neutered male wheaten terrier, so I'm concerned about bringing in another dog who is so small. Especially if this dog becomes sick.

I'm going to call my vet as well, but I've been looking online and can't seem to find anything that looks like it.

Is it true that the first pup that is born is the best? Is it actually better than the rest?

Our Great Pyrenees dog can't open her mouth more than an inch. She doesn't seem to be in distress -- happy even, just a little worried. We know she chews on things in the yard. Our first idea was lockjaw / tetanus - but she doesn't seem sick in any way. My husband has forced her lips open and can't get the jaw to open - but there doesn't seem to be any injury or infection that he can see.

Any other ideas we should look for why she can't open her jaw?

the puppy i'm going to buy is also a german shepherd. Both are males. Do you think they would get along? or would they fight. I have a doberman and it fights with the GSD although they grew up together. They are seperated now. I'm going to keep the new GSD puppy with the 2 yr old one.

Please let me know soon. Im planning on buying the pup in about another 3 weeks.

Thanks

My papillon is getting progressively WORSE with his potty training. More and more he is going inside as opposed to outside, and he has even started going in his kennel after only an hour! (Middle of the night he use to sleep through, no accidents)

Now will spanking his butt really affect him? I think not, let me know how you trained your seemingly hopeless pet please!

I just purchased a 3 month old Shiba Inu puppy. For the first 2 days I had him, he urinated only outside, but lately he has been going all over the house (both pee and poo). A woman I work with told me to crate train him, but I don't want to do that for the simple fact that the vet diagnosed him with bronchitus (kennel cough from the pet shop), and hook worms. If I were to even try to train him using a kennel, I would have to take him out every hour to give him medicine, on top of taking him to do his duty (+ he likes to pee in the kennel anyways). I bought puppy pads and he goes on them occasionally, but most of the time he won't pee on them. What is the easiest way to house train him? I need help before my boyfriend returns him to the pet store!!!!! thanks! :)

Is there any antibiotic for dogs that I can purchase at a pet store. I have new puppy 2 days old that I rescued. His mom was very aggressive towards the litter and basically pulled the layers off of one of the puppies tails. There is nothing left but raw meat. When I talked to the vet he said it should heal on it's own. I think he has infection in it. I'm not sure if this puppy is going to survive. I wanted to see if anyone has any knowledge of an over the counter antibiotic. I feel like after the response I got from the vet, it would be a waste of time and money to take him If anyone doesn't have any suggestions I am going to take him to the vet this afternoon. From what they say, I'm not sure if it will do any good but I can't just sit around and do nothing.

The last weekend of October I will entering Bindi in her first, and my first ever AKC conformation show.

I'm getting nervous with the show only a few weeks away.

What should I bring? What should brush up on with Bindi before the show? Do the judges give a little instruction to newbies?

I guess I'm just not sure what to expect, and any tips anyone has from experience would be great.

There's a dog in my neighborhood that often gets out and roams around the area. He is not neutered. I know he eventually goes home, so I feel bad to call his owners or the Humane Society. However, he could get hurt, and also he could be getting lots of other dogs pregnant. What should I do? Advice please?

We don't use pinning, alpha rolls, electric collars or prong collars, yet we still manage to train our dogs!

How on earth do we manage it? lol
