Chocolate contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs in sufficient quantities. This is a xanthine compound in the same family of caffeine, and theophylline.

The good news is that it won't necessarily kill a dog, only if it's ingested in large quantities. It all depends on the weight of the chocolate per pound versus the weight of the dog.

Signs to watch out for:
Hyper excitability
Hyper irritability
Increased heart rate
Restlessness
Increased urination
Muscle tremors
Vomiting
Diarrhea

The diarrhea should be expected though, will even a small amount of chocolate. But if it's combined with any of the other symptoms I would go to a vet to be safe.

I'm guessing it's milk chocolate then. How many is in the batch? If he ate more tha 5, I would take him to the vet because chocolate is very toxic to dogs.

Relax!!

He may have an upset stomach but you need to induce vomiting to be safe. Call the vets office and ask for the dose of peroxide/water for you dogs weight.

Who in their right mind eats pumpken chocolate chip cookies. I am a carb/sugar aholic and that sounds nauseating!

Well I'd call the vet. If it was the semi or milk chocolate chips that is one thing but because it was the dark chocolate chips that's something to call the vet about.
He may be fine but I would still feel better if you made a call to them. Better to be safe than sorry ok!

How big is he? Smaller dogs can't eat as much chocolate as larger dogs.

On the good side, pumpkin makes dogs constipated and will hopefull offset some of the laxitive effect of the chcolate.

Here is a page with the formula for how much chocolate is toxic:

Call the emergency vet! Our ER vet recommended giving our dog a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and milk (not sure of the quantity, depends on the size of the dog, so check with the ER vet) to make him vomit. It works every time--and very quickly, so make sure your dog is outside before giving it to him. The chemicals in chocolate that are toxic to dogs are cumulative, so you want to get them out of your dog's system as quickly as possible. Good luck.

As a professional dog trainer for over 16 years, I have to tell you my strong opinion that you need these group classes for obedience training. http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?31z6

Other pet warehouses are there to get you to buy their products and hang around their strore. And their trainers are their employees...never forget they have an agenda. Most of the trainers have very little education--if they had actual training and skills they wouldn't be there making just over minimum wage--trust me on this. But even if they did have experience and talent...a group setting is a terrible place for learning to take place. It's distraction training and it is the LAST phase of training not the first. You wouldn't have your child try to do their homework in a toy store, would you? Of course not...the level of distraction would be too high! It's the same with dogs. Having said that, these classes can be an excellent way to socialize dogs...but not to train them. And while they appear to be cheaper than a professional trainer...you have to attend many more sessions to get the same results because of the poor learning environment--so you wind up spending MORE money for less training than you would with a professional. Save your money and go to someone who actually knows how to train dogs. OR, read books and try to train your dog yourself. There is nothing they train at a Petsmart or Petco that you can't do yourself with a couple of hours of reading.
