I have a chihuahua, I've had her for about 2 months. She was very playful with me. She would always be hyper. But lately, she has been feeling sick or something. She doesn't want to eat. She's all skinny now. She's weak. Doesn't want to do anything. What's wrong with her? What should i do? PLEASE HELP!

2 week old puppy got messy poop over the back of his sister. Should I clean her off with a damp washcloth or leave it to the mama to clean? So far she hasn't cleaned it eventhough she usually licks up any poop the puppies make. Sorry for the nasty nature of this question but I do need advice.

OK... don't know if that made sense. But I know that a lot of responsible breeders say things like "I've rescued more dogs than I've bred" or "If you breed dogs you should also be helping with the pet overpopulation problem."

So I'm considering getting a dog. This would be a show dog who would be bred (after titles and genetic testing). I'm at the very early stages of even considering this, but I want to make sure I know precisely what I'd be getting in to.

This is a personal question. I know that nobody can say for someone else what is "enough" in terms of "giving back" to dogs when you've produced a litter of puppies.

But I do agree that if you produce a litter of puppies you should be responsible for those pups for their life and also do something for homeless dogs.

So, for you, what do you think is appropriate to give back to dogs when you breed?

what factors did you use in determining what dog or breed was right for you and your family.
for example:
did you choose that littl yorkie poo because your friends had one.
That lab because he was good for your family.
that poodle because he was the last purebred at the shelter.
that mutt because he was super cute.
Did yuo put thought into what dog you wanted and where you got it from?
Just curious

my answer:
my husband I I wanted a small, calm dog.
We searched several shelters and rescues before we drove 3 hours to pick up skipper.

It is only when he has been in his crate and I let him out to go outside. I have to pick him up to bring him down the stairs, because he is still too little to walk down them and he tinkles little drops everywhere. He is a shepherd and terrier mix. How can I stop this...Please!

I took him to the vet and all he said was to try to feed him different foods to find one that he likes better, but he still doesn't want to eat.

The term "neuter" seems to be used exclusively for male dogs in these days. Did "castration" sound too harsh????
IMHO, "neutering" procedure applies to both male/female dogs.
Bitches get "spayed", poor guys "castrated" ,,,,,, can I be correct?

In response to a pit bull question (and someone answer) :

"They grow up to kill children in their households. What makes you think they can't grow up to kill the other dogs.
Will he? I don't know. It would be much more rare for him to hurt them rather than not hurt them. Statistics are on your side."

If trained properly they DO NOT act aggressive.
Sure if you teach them to fight they will, if you leave them chained up outside they will be more aggressive.

What do you think about the pit bull is going to kill my child thing?

(really people if you can't train a dog you dont need one. and next time you think you see a apbt walking down the road and the first thing that comes to mind is "that dog should be shot before it kills my child" do the pit bull test!)

After struggling with my puppies failing health over the last 7 months, I have finally come to the realization that he may be happier if he were at peace. He can hardly walk and I can tell he is uncomfortable and unhappy. I have never had to make a decision like this and have no idea what to expect...cost wise, and what do they do with him after? Can anyone shed some light on this sad situation for me? Am I even doing the right thing?

Do you know what to do in an emergency with your pet? I got a call today from a man that had bought a pup from me over 4 years ago. His boy (GSD) bloated on Saturday evening late. He recognized a problem right away and got him to his regular vet at 11:30 pm. That vet made the correct diagnosis on this dog right away, took x-rays and pulled blood, and sent him off to Purdue University Small Animal Clinic for emergency surgery. There was an intern working that night and disagreed with the first vets diagnosis of bloat. She messed around for 2 hours before she finally told the people that the dog would need emergency surgery and that a surgeon would be called in right away to do it. This intern thought it was a hemangiosarcoma that ruptured. 2 1/2 hours after that, a surgeon opened this boy up. He died on the table! Classic bloat symtoms, his belly looked like he swallowed a basketball, legarthic, drueling and wretching. Purdue made a big mistake on this one. They never should of

I got a 3 mth old Cavalier. I got her coz I heard Cavs are great for 1st time owners and with children. I have nephews and nieces who visit a lot. She don't fit the breed standard. She's possessive, aggressive, keeps biting me, drawing blood, won't let go of summit, eg my t shirt I was wearing. can't play with her coz she gets really aggressive with her toys then moves onto biting other things including me. Walkies makes her aggressive too. I work from home and my work has suffered because I spend most of my time stopping her from eating something she shouldn't, being on the furniture, cleaning up her mess. I'm too scared to take my eyes off her when kids are with her. I wake up with a positive attitude thinking I'm going to train her but by night I am crying coz I can't take anymore. I've tried my best to train her following experts advice. I feel like I'm doing summit wrong but I'm doing all the experts say. I feel a failure. I'm sad coz I can give her a good life but I also want rid

I already have a 2 year old Chocolate Lab and I am wanting to obtain a Yellow Lab for a pet/breeding. I don't want to become a kennel. I just would like to have a few sets of puppies out of these two. I have been told there is a lot involved with this. Does anyone know of any good websites that would provide me with the information I need??

so.. my mom and my sister found a stray dog walking around the streets. they noticed it was kinda limping and didnt want to leave it out in the streets so they brought it home. anyways.. the dog is a girl and she has a big belly! its not huge but its big. maybe she's just fat.. i dont know. but if she is pregnant id like to know. she keeps moaning every once in a while.. i thought i was because of her paw.. then my sister brought up the whole pregnancy thing. so i was just wondering. when she lays down she doesnt stay in one position.. she switches sides and she loves for us to pet her belly... so i dont know! is she pregnant? or is she just whining cuz of her paw.. anyone? yes we will be taking her to the vet soon.. but id just like to know if anyone here might know.
