In response to a pit bull question (and someone answer) :
"They grow up to kill children in their households. What makes you think they can't grow up to kill the other dogs.
Will he? I don't know. It would be much more rare for him to hurt them rather than not hurt them. Statistics are on your side."
If trained properly they DO NOT act aggressive.
Sure if you teach them to fight they will, if you leave them chained up outside they will be more aggressive.
What do you think about the pit bull is going to kill my child thing?
(really people if you can't train a dog you dont need one. and next time you think you see a apbt walking down the road and the first thing that comes to mind is "that dog should be shot before it kills my child" do the pit bull test!)

Sorry, I can't stop laughing.
My reply to the dog myth question is that pits Kill and eat men, women and children. This is a myth perpetuated by the media.
More labs bite than pits. You just don't see it in the news. It's not nearly as exciting to have a headline saying - MARLEY ATE THE BABY....
I'm a lab owner. =0
EDIT:
I got thumbs down because people didn't get the humor. Plus, I'm not on the I hate pits bandwagon. I also think it's funny. I just bashed by own breed and they don't get it....
BTW, that was a good link. I took the test. I was POSITIVE I knew which was the pitty. It took my 5 tries... LOL. I was guessing at the end. Some of those breeds, I've never heard of.
EDIT2:
Badly bred, badly raised dogs - in urban areas living with gang banging idiots are dangerous. These "people" give those poor dogs a bad name. They seem to think the dog makes their D!cks look bigger. Sorry to be crude. I lived in the city. I saw it. I moved out.
It's not the dog's fault. It's the idiots... AND the media.
EDIT3:
All breeds are not right for all people. Labs aren't for everyone - neither are Pits. Everyone needs to realize this isn't a contest about the BEST dog breed.

It is NOT a know fact that pit bulls have a better temperment then golden retrievers. APBT have a well known agression twords other dogs, according to the UKC "it often surprises people to learn that this extremely muscular dog with the impressive, confident presence is so easygoing. A well bred APBT is a good natured loyal companion. His attitude towards other canines, however, is another story, with his ancestry dictating a strong-willed, no nonsense kind of dog who does not take kindly to other assertive dogs" I love pit bulls and own a am staf terrier but just comparing temperments, a golden retrievers is honestly rivaled by almost no other dog. Like I said, I love pit bulls and think a well raised and well bred APBT (American Pit Bull Terrier) will be perfectly fine in a household with children. No young child should ever be left alone with any dog though. It doesnt matter if it is a golden retriever or a APBT.
Torbaynewfs said it PERFECTLY. The so called "pit bull" fans are actually hurting the breed. By saying there is no difference between a pit bull and a golden retriever is one of the reasons we have so many probelms. First time dog owners here this and think, "well in that case, I CAN get that pit bull from the pound". When a golden retriever would be a much better dog for a inexperianced first time dog owner.

This test has been posted many times. To the average Jane or John Doe they all look alike.
With all the news on aggressive dogs & fighting dogs there is a general scare for any dog that looks like a Pitt to them. Many a mother is scared to death that it will hurt or kill their child. And many of them could under certain situations.
As a Canine Behaviorist I have had more than my share of experience with these beasts. As a Trainer I have worked one on one with them & I do not trust a Pitt.
There are too many breeding for fighting & the pups from this type of breeding carry a very strong predisposition for aggression. The pups that don't make it to the Pit are sold as pets & when their aggression shows people think that it is a matter of training the dog. but this is the wrong attitude & why there is so many attacks occur. Almost anything can trigger an attack if these dogs aren't governed by a very strick strong hand.
I have damn near killed a Pitt while it was attacking a neighbors dog. I had to use a large ROCK to beat the Pitt off. Then he tried to redirect his aggression on to me. The last hit with the rock knocked him out. The neighbors dog had to go to the Vet to get sewed up. The Pitt was destroyed by animal control.
Many think that is a matter of training but this is the wrong attitude when it comes to pups from fight breeders. Plus, the breed is very strongly predisposed for aggression. Especially when the Pitt reaches the age of 3 or 4, that is the age a dog matures.
There are many people who are uneducated about this and assume the dog will be just fine.
Wrong, OH so wrong. If I didn't have the experiences I have had with them I probably would feel the same way the ignorant people think & feel. But, through experience I know different.

If people would just face and admit that pits ARE naturally more aggressive than your average breed, and therefore should not be owned by novice owners, we would not have the problems we are having.
For most people, "training" the dog means in stays off the table (when you are looking), it can be walked on leash (with or with out their shoulder in place), and it does not take the mailman's face off. That is it. They have no idea how to properly socialize a dog with other humans or other animals. They are not dominant in many situations, and many don't even attend a basic obedience class.
So why do we feel that these pits that they own are going to be trustworthy long term?? They have no idea what subtle signs of aggression to look for and nip in the bud!!!!!!
They are NOT like most other breeds. They just aren't. There is no stopping unknowledgable people from owning and breeding these dogs.
I have seen MANY that were aggressive, either towards people of other animals, and they were in fact pits. Really, it is pretty rare in the "pit neighborhoods" to see a Dogo, Cane Corso, Mastiff, or most of the other breeds. They are in fact pits.
It just seems to be taboo to say that pits are not like Goldens. People have this idea that they are the same and that is dangerous!!!

Whoever pronounced inbreeding - that's ridiculous. regrettably, pit bulls at the instant are not a breed. uncertain the place you're going with that remark. John, are you asserting that it particularly is barely pit bulls that are in a position to coach on infants? Any canine can activate a new child, and specifically circumstances that is not even in an aggressive state. there became a tale no longer too previously some Dobermann that killed the youngster of their family contributors. comparable variety of tale - father and mom weren't there and left old granny to look after the baby (i think of the youngster became some million). So granny leaves the baby on the floor in one room with the canine and is going into the kitchen - already particularly smart - the Dobe ended up biting the infants head and killing it. however the canine wasn't being "viscious" he concept he became taking part in. a new child's head isn't precisely the main stable factor available - it became actually an twist of destiny - and twist of destiny that would have been prevented if the father and mom weren't idiots. in basic terms like this new child - as tragic because it particularly is - it particularly is extra tragic that the father and mom left their new child with granny who became for sure no longer powerfuble adequate to look after the youngster. you recognize, because of the fact the youngster became exterior with the canine at night!! no person knows what this canine's historic previous became. no person knows what introduced on the canine to chew the youngster. perhaps the canine became aggressive, or perhaps the youngster annoyed the canine - the two way, would have been prevented if the human beings in this tale have been extra to blame. ANY canine - no longer in basic terms pit bulls - would have genetic temperament subjects that lead them to aggressive. some canines in basic terms have not been knowledgeable. AND back - no person even knows what variety of canine it particularly is! So I desire human beings might provide up feeding into the media frenzy and in basic terms shouting "pit bull" while they have no concept. I heard a hearsay it became a bulldog...

Before "we" point the finger a pit bulls - why don't we first try to find out what causes a dog to react in such a way. In the first instance any dog "could kill" a child or even attack a grown up - but what most people seem forget is that an animal would react when their life is being endangered or if they feel threatened in any way.
So, if your child is running towards a pit bull with a stcik in his/her hand or an unusual object, it is only natural that the animal would react and possibly harm the child in defence.

What I think is that way too many people haven't learned to think for themselves or do research. They simply rely on what is told to them. Sad....a dog (that probably isn't even a pit in the first place,) attacks someone and there is a media frenzy to advertise pits as aggressive baby eaters.
People need to wake up. Dogs are animals...any breed can attack a human if the conditions are right.

Well the problem with pitbull attacks are definately the owners. First time dog owners who have no experience with training or being responsible for dogs get them because they think they look cool, and that is how you end up with pit bull attacks. This is a wonderful breed, and I have met extremely sweet pit bulls, but do I think I could handle one? No... so I am not irresponsible and dont get one. They are not a breed for everyone, and unfortunately, people dont seem to understand that.

if you love the pit bull like a family member that pit would DIE for you not kill your kids. All that is just plan bullshit I have been raising pit bulls for about 17 years and have NEVER had one attack a child, I have one protect a child that was being punished for doing something wrong pit bulls are like 13 on the human bite list there are other dogs that would bite you before a pit bull would ever think about doing so .

I took your test,a nd I got it on the first try, but I really had to look at them closely. I think most people are just stupid, and will believe what ever the T.V. tells them too. We no longer think for ourselves in this country, because it is easier to believe what the big box tells you, and it would never lie to us. I have never met a mean APBT, and that is the truth.
