A good well bred golden's will not be under 900 dollars anywhere. Anything under that price I would look at very closely and then make a decision as to if I would take a chance on buying it.
All Golden's should have parent who have had OFA hips, elbow x-ray and certified. Heart checked and thyroid checked also.
For a top quality Golden here where I am they start at 1,000.00 dollars and go up from there.
To me cheap means poorly bred and your in for some big vet bills!

Not sure about the cost to purchase a Golden Retriever but the other costs are this per year:
Immunisations = £40
Worming = £60
Flea Treatments = £90
Food = £300+
Insurance = £300
Bed/bowls/toys/leads/collars = £300+
The total annual cost is upwards of £1000, around £90 per month. This is based on what I spend but I do get everything except innoculations and insurance from the wholesalers so this cost is really the minimum you could expect to spend. Forgot to add dog training sessions, dog guards/seat belts for the car and probably a whole heap of other things too!

To find out the average cost of a healthy well bred puppy from a reputable breeder, contact the Golden Retriever breed club. You may get a cheaper puppy, but it will probably cost you more in vet's fees and heartache if you do.

My aunt bought hers from a REPUTABLE breeder for 1100 dollars. (please NEVER ever look for 'cheap' deals through newspapers, there almost ALWAYS puppy mills. ANd pet stores are not better. Go to a real breeder OR petfinder.com and rescue one)
Ofcourse, were in MA where everything is higher priced anyhow. It probably would depend on your own state.
Anyhow, keep in mind this doggie will shed, because her coat is a little thicker and longer.
She bought hers as a pup over a year ago, and has spent well over a thousand on vet bills (shots, spaying so on) food, toys, and training classes.. which you realy should think about investing in, especially if you are getting a pup.
Yeah, there not cheap. But if you have the money to do this, SO worth it, as the love they will give you back is 10x greater and more imortant then the *money* you spent on her

It depends on where you live and where you get the puppy from. Around here (smallish town) they go for $3-400, from mostly amateurs breeding their own dogs.
Taking care of a dog can be pricey, depending on your luck. I haven't spent anything on my dog besides food, treats, and toys, but when it comes time for a vet visit, I'm sure it will be plenty.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.

about £400
And the vets fees are the biggest cost when taking care of a dog. Otherwise, it's just food (after youve bought the other things)
