Do you live any where near where these "free" St. Bernards are?

If not than I'd suggest you adopt one at a shelter.

If you can't afford to buy a St. Bernard - you CAN'T afford to feed him - trust me. He will eat you out of house and home. They require lots of grooming and care. And, should he need a vet, your boyfriend would likely not be able to afford the bill. The purchase price of most dogs is generally the least amount you will pay for that dog over his lifetime if he is properly cared for. Sounds like a dog - even a free one - is not in the cards for your boyfriend financially. ADD: If your boyfriend can afford the dog, then let him buy a quality bred dog from a reputable breeder. Anything you get for "free" or at a very low cost will be poorly bred and probably have every genetic defect associated with the breed and a few more health problems to boot since BYBers don't do any health testing. His health issues would bankrupt you and your boyfriend in short order and would probably end in an early and untimely death for the dog. If you can afford a St. Bernard, then buy only from a reputable breeder who will offer you a health guarantee and a buy back clause.

Really hard to find a free one, as they are a big dog and people usually want big bucks for those. They do become available though at shelters, when people realize they can't handle such a big beast. I'm so sorry for your loss; I know they are sweeties. Try petfinder.com or local ads. Good luck!

Aww sweetie Im sorry. :(
I dont know of any free ones, that would make me a little leary anyhow.. but I suggest looking at petfinder.com. They wont be free, but there not as expensive as a reputable breeder.
Good luck

Free? I don't think so.
Speaking as someone who has lost many dogs, please wait a while before adding a new dog to your family. Spend time getting over your loss, and when you are feeling more yourself again you will be a much better puppy-parent.
